@DexterSSB Perfect Pivot is cool and all, and the jukes you can make with it are cool too, but what we really need is a more impactful microspacing option like Wavedashing. Primarily because WD can be used at any point during a dash, whereas PP can only be used right at the start of one.
@MaxKetchum_ Right off the top of my head, the moves I would consider putting under the microscope with that framework would be:
- Cancellable moves
- Projectiles
- Moves where, if you block them, your options for dealing with a second one in a row are severely limited
- Certain Jabs/Dtilts
@MaxKetchum_ As far as Drift DI, it has largely the same impact you expect it to have from R1. There are a lot of combos in R2 where, if the starter goes uncontested by FH, what happens afterwards is largely unavoidable regardless of DI.
@MaxKetchum_ Floorhug meanwhile, you can use while inactionable, so, as you said, there’s barely any decisionmaking or risk behind it. You’re just able to get whiff punished, and more often than not reduce your hitstun to 8 frames because you know how to hold Down during your recovery frames.
@MaxKetchum_ -as you have to make a deliberate choice to give up your action to attempt to put yourself in the crouching position to do it. It’s still annoying to deal with at times, but the risk/reward is properly in place there.
8 months ago, I wrote a dissertation from the perspective of a 25-year Melee/platform fighter player who intimately understands the mechanic on why floorhugging is a net negative for Rivals 2. Didn’t feel compelled to post it before but here it is

@whosFLICKER If you're just referring to situations where you're fully in neutral and deliberately throwing out crouches, or even just moving around, then yes I agree with your points, as you're not really committing to actions at that point.
@whosFLICKER So, just to make my stance clear, my problem with FH is that a player who gets whiffed punished still has access to it, but this is the one scenario where they absolutely should not be permitted to avoid disadvantage. It doesn't make sense from a game design/feel standpoint.
@EyerisROA@backthrowshine Right, but I’ve been on and off of the idea for letting FH function if you’re just doing raw movement. It’s been hard to call which way works/feels better there.
@backthrowshine It’s a big reason why I advocate for “Off While Attacking” Floorhug, as it allows you access to CC, and even FH if you’re just schmooving around, but it doesn’t allow you to get off scotch free if you’re throwing out moves and get hit.
@backthrowshine The ppl who are complaining about CC are making bad-faith arguments. You have to crouch to use it, meaning you’re risking giving up your action to do it.
It’s FH that’s the problem, since you get to use it while you’re being whiff-punished, which SHOULD always be a neutral loss.
