The default position of a school that finds a knife in a student should be an immediate suspension, with a presumption to exclude except in the most extenuating of circumstances (eg it was planted on them). The safety of children is sacred.

Exclusion doesn’t mean the student is ‘cast out of society’- they are placed in another setting, preferably a specialist one. This may even provide the young person with a better environment in which to change.

But every other child in the school threatened by a knife deserves their rights and needs to be upheld by us. And that means excluding any child with a knife. They need to know ‘this will happen to me if I carry’. Which maximises the deterrent, and reassures students, staff and parents: we are safe

Yes. Creativity comes from knowledge and imagination.

If you deprive a child of knowledge, they will be less creative

If you prevent their imaginations from engaging, they will be less creative.

Video games and child centred learning inhibit creativity.

It is with complete heartbreak that I share with you our devastation at Gareth’s sudden, tragic but peaceful death on the 14th December.
Our loss is immeasurable, commensurate only to our love for him and his for ours. (1/2)
