I’m very sad to hear of the passing of legendary Ottawa broadcaster Lowell Green. I grew up listening to Lowell on @CFRAOttawa and then became a colleague and friend for 20 years. He was a groundbreaking talk show host and a proud Canadian. My deepest sympathies to his family, his friends, and his many listeners who will miss him greatly.
A quick response and a fast attack prevented a rapidly spreading fire from causing even more extensive damage in the Glebe last night.
At approximately 22:37, the Ottawa Fire Services Communications Division received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting visible smoke and flames in the 100 block of Fourth Avenue.
Firefighters arrived on scene within two minutes of dispatch and found several residents safely evacuated and gathered on the sidewalks. The initial Officer in Command quickly assessed the scene and discovered four large semi-detached homes, a large tree, a garage with a vehicle, and multiple decks on fire.
A second alarm was declared to bring in additional resources, followed shortly by a third alarm due to the scale of the incident.
Firefighters initiated an aggressive fire attack, advancing multiple hose lines to protect surrounding structures and extinguish the blaze. Crews worked tirelessly during fire operations, pulling down ceilings, cutting holes in roofs, and opening up walls to ensure all hidden fire was fully extinguished.
They also performed thorough searches of all affected buildings to ensure no one was trapped inside. Two complete searches confirmed all residents had safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.
Victim Services was called to the scene for 8 adults and 2 children who will be displaced due to the fire.
The fire was declared under control at 23:09. An Ottawa Fire Investigator was dispatched to the scene to determine the cause. #OttNews

Firefighters battled a fire in a commercial business early this morning in Nepean and prevented it from spreading throughout the entire complex.
At approx. 02:16 this morning, the Ottawa Fire Services Communications Division received a 9-1-1 call reporting flames coming from the front door of a one storey commercial building in the 500 block of West Hunt Club Road. Firefighters arrived on scene 4min after being dispatched to the call and confirmed flames coming out of the front door and windows of the structure. Using a rotary saw and a sledgehammer, Firefighters forced entry through the front door of the structure and advanced a hose line inside. Fire crews also began searching the structure for any occupants in zero visibility conditions. An aerial ladder was set up at the back of the structure. Firefighter searched the main floor, the loft area and the basement and no occupants were found in structure. Firefighters removed ceiling in the loft and confirmed there was no fire extension into the attic and roof area. The fire was declared under control at 02:52 and contained before it could spread into any of the other businesses in the complex. Firefighters performed ventilation operations removing the smoke from the structure as well as the smoke the migrated into the adjoining business. There are no reported injuries. An @OttFire Investigator was dispatched to the scene. #OttNews
Thank you America, thank you for your support, thank you for this visit. Thank you @POTUS, Congress, and the American people.
Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that.
#ODSPoverty can be cruel at times, especially when policy makers are making 200000-300000 dollars a year. How many applications are rejected and / or current clients thrown off the system because of spousal income @ONSocialService ? #onpoli#PWD
Ford is wasting billions on a spa at Ontario Place and tunnels under the 401, while rural communities see their hospitals close and housing prices climb even further out of reach.
Ontario Greens are ready to put people over profits and build a better Ontario for everyone, not just Ford connected insiders.
So many people across the province cannot find a safe or affordable place to live.
On National Housing Day, I'm calling on the Ford government to move urgently on legalizing housing so we can build more homes that people can afford.
This 9-plex in Guelph is an example of how we can create more homes that people desperately need, but unfortunately zoning rules make it illegal to build in most parts of the province.
It's surprising to exactly no one that the privatization of our healthcare has led to unequal healthcare outcomes.
If private healthcare is already leading to this level of inequality what will our healthcare look like in another 5 or 10 years?
Privatizing our healthcare is a mistake we need to undo.
@fordnation Upon logging into my Ontario benefits account each month, I am asked if I or my family have left the province. As a recipient of disability supports, I strive to find the best deals, but I am unable to take advantage of cheaper prices in Gatineau. Are provincial
Disabled people don’t want access that nondisabled people think we need.
Disabled people want access that we know we need and are entitled to by law, equity and justice.
How about an Ontario made solution to the strike that the Premier provoked?
Instead of cooking videos, why doesn't the Premier use his time and resources to do the planning and consultation necessary to preserve jobs for LCBO workers?

Huge congratulations to @solmamakwa.
This is a truly historic moment in this house and across Ontario to have an Indigenous language spoken in the legislature.
Honoured to have witnessed this moment that you made happen.
@StuntmanStu I'm watching Hell's Kitchen. My wife asked me if I am learning how to cook. My response was no but I am learning some new words in my vocabulary
Last week's Auditor General's report was damning.
It reinforced what we've seen since 2018; this govt doesn't care what Ontarians think. They don’t ask, don’t listen and ignore consultation, bulldozing ahead without due process.
We need a govt that listens to people.
