Delighted to report that ‘It’s Nice Up North’ is now being screened in Liverpool on November 9th, plus elsewhere in the UK, oof! https://t.co/HPEB9qSVt7
The wonderful and incomparable Bonnie Tyler has been taken from us. Such sad news, but a chance to remind ourselves of a little known duet she sang with yours truly in 1994. Listen from 36:36 (or from 30 mins to also hear interview). RIP Bonnie.. https://t.co/us64WWuFIi
Oof - it’s NOT a ponytail! He’s just taken his baseball cap off revealing that a tuft of hair was poking through the hole in his cap. I feel cheated and crestfallen - although I should be pleased, I suppose, as Arthur won handsomely and is now into the Semis. Well done, lad!
Enjoying the tennis? I am and most impressed by new lad Arthur Fery. I admire his little ponytail - nice gimmick which works well - and it’s surely only a matter of time before Henman Hill is renamed Fery Hill. Then I’ll be able to sing “I’ll undertake your burial on Fery Hill”!
I think you’ll find he was wearing HER spectacles, Luigi. And that explains why she snatched them off him! He was out of order to take them without her permission, yes, but oof, surely she could have waited til they were back in the dressing room? Shoddy!
Having said that, my favourite entry so far is Albania – that lad who had a funny chainmail tunic. The key moment was when his mother came and took off his spectacles. Fantastic gesture!
A few people are asking where I am this Eurovision? Well, Mary says she finds my constant typing off-putting, and to be honest, I want to just watch this year and consider each song, and then make my final verdict. Is that okay, followers ?
Delighted to announce that in the Autumn there will be a 20th Anniversary screening tour of ‘It’s Nice Up North’ which was filmed by my friend, the late Martin Parr. Dates TBA shortly, but in the meantime here’s the new trailer!

If you’re in the Faversham area tomorrow evening, I’ll be chatting about my John Shuttleworth ‘Takes the Biscuit’ book @FavershamLit . And I promise I’ll try to avoid that silly ‘thinking’ pose, as seen below!
Joan Chitty’s just been round to wish us HNY and she took the last Roses in the tub which I’ve since found out was a ‘Signature Truffle’. I’m gutted as all that’s left now is a ‘Tangy Orange Crème’ which - despite being dented - is way too exotic for early Jan, wouldn’t you say?
