@smallstepforsam@NextBestPicture Weinstein was kicked out of the industry, so that’s not a fair comparison. He’s not making films and even if he wasn’t in jail he would be blackballed.
Also not defending Brad but comparing someone who’s been accused of abuse in 1 relationship to a serial rapist is wild.
@smallstepforsam@NextBestPicture Because he’s a great actor and he’s reprising a role he won an Oscar for in a great director’s film he’s worked with before.
He hasn’t faced any legal repercussion so what are we supposed to do? Audiences ignored Heart Of The Beast so not everything he’s in is notable.
@chilkine2024@Blaugranaology@6mDryers@AKlay19 People online are fucking stupid, and their opinions don’t mean nothing. Sinners has a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, was the 2nd most acclaimed film of 2025, and was a box office success with an A cinemascore from audiences. Everyone by all metrics loved the movie.
@Picks4Sale@doloresquintana@reasonableonly It won Best Picture, WB had not won since Argo. That alone makes the movie a success. It’s not like it flopped and got a couple noms, it won the top prize.
@Srirachachau I think this is due to the immediate trashing of the movie in the early reviews. Now it’s clearly divisive but the strong reaction is from those first 2-3 days of reviews which to be fair were very vitriolic.
But I agree that “trying to be right” defeats the purpose of art.
@strawhatellie But is it the overwhelming amount of art that exists? Or the fact that we have to do activities we don’t want to do to maintain being alive and sleeping in a bed daily.
Like if you could legit not have to work and just be able to enjoy art, you’d be able to get through a lot.
@NextBestPicture Who is a filmmaker you’re a massive fan of that has largely been ignored by the academy that you’d love to see have a Nolan/PTA style sweep for their next film?
