•The trade has grown on me. It’s still an overpayment but not nearly as bad as I initially reacted.

• The Hawks can’t afford to finish second-last again, it’s time for this team to take a legitimate step forward.

•This move helps the team right now far more than any prospect we likely would’ve drafted.

•I also think Byram still has another level to his game & has an opportunity to flourish in his new role.

•He’s already won a Cup, has a few more years of experience under his belt, and brings a competitive, confident mindset. I think his presence in the locker room will be really beneficial for all the young players.

•He immediately fills a major need on the power play.

•Improving PP1 is one of the biggest priorities for this team, and Byram should help significantly there.

•He should also help address the Hawks’ struggles in 3-on-3 overtime.

•If the Hawks can:
-Get PP1 rolling,
-Figure out their 3-on-3 overtime strategy,
-Get a healthy season from Bedard (#98),

Then we are talking a wild card contender.

(Also Bedard is thrilled about this acquisition, if he’s happy, that’s really important)
