I don’t think people truly appreciate how good of a coach @jimleonhard is and the impact he has on the production of every position group and defensive unit he’s been a part of. He sees the game at a whole different level and I know he’s excited about what’s next in Buffalo
I really don’t think ppl understand how much slower reading WRs vs reading defenders makes a QB play… now the game is still fast, but I’m not seeing a guy come open, I’m letting the D tell me who’s going to be open so I can anticipate & let the ball go!
One of my issues with the new pure progression world!
Wait what? Huh… how???
I’m really confused because people that know nothing about QB development always say that QBs can’t learn to throw more accurately, can’t improve their mechanics, can’t get better.. 🙄🙄
Lot of bad coaches a bit too devoted to Mike Leach 🤣🤣
I really DISLIKE pure progression plays… I just don’t feel you can be consistent & quick enough mentally playing the QB position if you’re not “reading” defenders!!!
#TellMeWhyImWrong?
Man, I love KOC.
PS - this is why helmet communication should be legal at the high school level. How many high school QBs could benefit from a positive word in their ear while out on the field?
My favorite adage when designing a play “We aren’t trying to get EVERYONE open we are trying to get SOMEONE open”! Everyone in the room needs to hear this, understand this & buy into this!!
Next observation: PURE PROGRESSION plays continually make QBs work too fast bc they are more worried about finding open guy instead of reading D & letting defense dictate where ball goes! I know it’s the FLAVOR of the MONTH in NFL but I see it EVERY week!
A couple ppl asked me to explain my comments on WHY we are running a “pivot” or a “flat” under an “IN” route… here’s my video explanation! I love teaching ball - hit me with thoughts/questions!
Biggest Issue: most offenses are primarily SHOTGUN & there is not direct correlation of DROPs to ROUTES & it’s killing QB’s TIMING! They are too early or too late & are missing things all over the place bc of it! I’ve always believed u must start QBs under center to develop INTERNAL CLOCK!
Let’s keep conversation going on “Pure Progression” vs “Defender Read”, I was asked to dive deeper into this by a few coaches, so I did! Here’s a look at some of my issues with it, but here for the dialogue & conversation to make all of us smarter! Enjoy https://t.co/kpbKm75wTp
