@leucocrystal@tweetyenergy I believe he saw it at Sundance and told Ray Liotta how he loved it. Ray told him they need a help to bring it out to the public and Cruise said I'll do it. Todd Field also credits him for helping to launch his directorial career. The things this man does for cinema!
@tweetyenergy TC always builds close relationships with other filmmakers and keep supporting them; as he produced two Robert Towne films "Ask the Dust" and "Without Limits", even campaigned for Donald Sutherland in the latter to get his first overdue nom, which unfortunately he didn't.
@AbbasAmjad7@ScottMendelson@k_shinzon85 'cause it was picked up by Vertical, a rather poor distributor with no marketing way after its festival premiere (where it got mixed reviews). That film had Jude Law, Vanessa Kirby and Ana De Armas in bigger roles, all stars. Unless you claim theyre box office poisons as well
@DanielGorman20 It wasnt for lack of trying. Many of those projects sounded better on paper and hes strong enough in "White Boy Rick", "Beach Bum" and even much panned "Sea of Trees" which was an interesting change of pace for him.
@indianloonie To be fair, his criticism was balanced with his praise. He said even though he usually doesnt like him, he couldnt help but admit he is good in "Midnight in Paris"
@roxana_hadadi@vulture Fantastic interview. Crazy how underrated she has been through her career. "Bug", "Ruby in Paradise", "Normal Life" so many great performances.
@NextBestPicture Actual footage of Tom Cruise when he heard Ted Sarandos saying "My pushback has been mostly in the fact of the long exclusive windows".
