John Wray's superb novel GONE TO THE WOLVES takes readers on a wild (and accurate feeling) ride through the birth of the Florida death metal scene to the LA glam rock scene and ultimately black metal Norway. Seriously metalheads, this is your next must read!!
New Review: GONE TO THE WOLVES is a 2023 crime-fiction/horror novel that features three teenagers growing older in Florida in the early 1990s. When one of the trio goes missing in Norway an investigation ensues that may point to a human trafficking plot that mirrors real-life people associated with the black metal scene. Finished Gone to the Wolves over the weekend. Immaculate vibes, as the cover suggests. Strange structure that worked for me. The ending felt unresolved, but after sitting on it, I think that's a good thing. Anyway, great book.
We will be sharing our staff's favourite books of 2023 in the upcoming weeks. Here are Steve's top books of the year: Three Holidays and a Wedding by Marissa Stapley and Uzma Jalaluddin ♥ Gone to the Wolves by John Wray ♥ In the Upper Country by Kai Thomas
I just wanted to recommend some semi goth modern books. I will say that the only one that isn’t gothic is Gone to the Wolves, this book is actually a thriller about a friend group who loves heavy metal, but I wanted to include it here because I adore it. 🖤
-obsessions can take us

The @BKBF was exciting for me as a both writer and a reader this past Sunday. I met John Wray, the author of "Gone to the Wolves" @MacmillanUSA. He autographed my notebook! Wray's novel depicts a group of teenagers losing themselves in the heavy metal subculture. I could relate.

John Wray’s Gone to the Wolves is a gem. Three friends forge their relationships amidst Florida’s nascent death metal scene and complicate them in the desiccating husk of Sunset Strip glam. But nothing has prepared them for true Norwegian black metal.
“I heard from a lot of people from places I wouldn’t have expected, who were like, ‘Finally, there’s a book that is about this stuff.’” - Whiting winner @John_Wray on writing about the metal music scene in GONE TO THE WOLVES https://t.co/707trXfz3H
