Three Years On: Nigerians Are Paying More and Getting Less
The Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Lagos State Chapter, expresses deep concern over the worsening economic hardship facing millions of Nigerians after three years of the current administration.
Leadership must be measured not by promises or statistics alone, but by the quality of life of the people. Today, too many Nigerians are working harder yet living poorer. That reality demands urgent action, not political rhetoric.
The APM remains committed to promoting practical,

APM Lagos Backs Governor Seyi Makinde’s Call for an Independent Probe into the Orire School Kidnapping, Questions APC, Senate Opposition
The Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Lagos State Chapter, has declared its unequivocal support for the call by the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, the presidential candidate of APM, for an independent investigation into the tragic kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers in Orire Local Government Area.
We are deeply concerned by the swift opposition from the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Nigerian Senate, and Senator Adams Oshiomhole to Governor Makinde’s request for an independent probe. Their resistance raises a fundamental question: What are they afraid of?
If everyone is genuinely interested in uncovering the truth behind the Orire school kidnapping, there should be no objection to a transparent, credible, and independent investigation. Those who have nothing to hide should have nothing to fear from a process designed solely to establish the facts and ensure justice.
It is important to state that Nigeria is a sovereign nation and a proud member of the United Nations. Seeking the support or involvement of international institutions in matters of justice, accountability, or human rights does not diminish our sovereignty. Rather, it reflects the willingness of a democratic nation to embrace transparency and uphold international standards where necessary.
Ironically, many of the same political actors and interests now criticizing Governor Makinde’s position were among those who, during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, openly appealed to the international community and global organizations to intervene, monitor developments, and investigate widespread insecurity and other national concerns. It is therefore difficult to reconcile their current position with their previous advocacy. Nigerians deserve consistency, not selective outrage driven by political expediency.
The focus should not be on attacking Governor Makinde for demanding transparency. Instead, the priority should be identifying those responsible for this heinous crime, exposing any collaborators, uncovering security failures that made the attack possible, and ensuring that every person found culpable is brought before the law.
As the leading opposition party in Lagos State, APM believes that the lives of innocent schoolchildren are too precious to become casualties of partisan politics. The safety of Nigerians must always take precedence over political interests.
We therefore call on the APC-led Federal Government, the National Assembly, and all relevant security agencies to demonstrate their commitment to justice by supporting every lawful effort capable of uncovering the truth. Attempts to discourage or dismiss calls for an independent investigation only fuel public suspicion and erode confidence in our institutions.
Beyond the Orire tragedy, this incident once again highlights the urgent need for comprehensive security reforms, including improved intelligence gathering, stronger collaboration among security agencies, and constitutional measures that will enable states to play more effective roles in protecting lives and property.
The victims deserve justice. Their families deserve answers. Nigerians deserve the truth.
Governor Seyi Makinde’s call should not be politicized. It should be embraced as an opportunity to strengthen public confidence in our democracy and reaffirm that no individual or institution is beyond scrutiny where the lives of innocent citizens are concerned.
