Telling girls to “be careful” is important.
Safety matters.

But when that’s the only conversation we have, it quietly places the responsibility for preventing harm on them alone.

prevention also means raising boys with clear values. Teach them that consent must be mutual and enthusiastic.

Teach them that silence or hesitation is not a yes.

Teach them that persistence after a no is not romantic it’s pressure.

Teach them to respect boundaries without negotiation.

Teach them to hold their friends accountable, not laugh harmful behaviour off.

Most parents struggle to imagine their son causing harm. That not denial that’s love.We all want to believe the best about our children innit ?

We don’t talk to boys about consent because we expect the worst.
We do it so they grow into men who understand responsibility, empathy and respect.

And we don’t teach girls safety because we expect them to be victims.
We do it because the world isn’t always safe. Both conversations can and should happen together.

Protecting girls matters.
Educating boys matters.
Believing victims matters.
Raising emotionally responsible humans matters.

Prevention works best when it’s shared.
Not when it’s placed on one gender alone.
