Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast have been under almost nonstop Russian attack for two days, with improved jet-powered drones repeatedly striking civilian and commercial infrastructure.

Russia has targeted food warehouses, hypermarkets, postal terminals, warehouses storing books and other businesses around the capital. The strikes are disrupting logistics and the movement of goods, adding to supply problems around Kyiv.

The attacks are part of a broader pattern. Russian drones have also struck commercial sites in Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia, including shopping centers and other civilian facilities.

The repeated attacks have made rescue work especially dangerous. Firefighters in Kyiv Oblast have been working at multiple locations while repeatedly taking shelter because of the threat of follow-up strikes.

Since the first attack overnight on 27 August, Kyiv Oblast has faced dozens of Russian attacks, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service. Emergency crews have repeatedly returned to burning warehouses and other damaged sites as soon as the immediate danger has passed.

Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi said Russian attacks across Ukraine killed 16 people and injured 50 on 27 August. In Kyiv alone, air raid alerts lasted more than 14 hours that day.

Russia’s aerial campaign against the capital is increasingly extending beyond residential areas to the commercial and logistics infrastructure that keeps Kyiv supplied and operating.
