A lot of these parents are playing this prank on kids way too young to understand it.

First of all, small children are extra sensitive to pain so it probably does hurt them. But they also experience this as a violation of trust from their caregiver. Suddenly mom hits them in the head and then laughs at their pain and embarrassment. They don’t understand the joke, they just feel really bad and they associate that bad feeling with mom. Hope your 30 seconds of laughter was worth your kid questioning whether you love them and whether they can trust you.

The few older kids in this actually laughed and thought it was funny because they are old enough to joke around and have the cognitive ability to understand that kind of humour.

I’m all for parents joking with their kids but it needs to be age-appropriate.
