As the world responds to the Ebola virus outbreak, preparedness cannot pause. Even as emergency response teams are activated, sustained investment in frontline capacity remains critical because the strength of any health security system is ultimately tested at the point of entry.

This week, #IamAPHRC and the East African Community (EAC) Secretariat's EAC Pandemic Preparedness and Response project teams are on the ground in Zanzibar's seaport and the Namanga Point of Entry, training border health officials and key stakeholders across six core areas:
✅ Detection & Reporting
✅ Simulation Exercises
✅ Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) at Points of Entry
✅ WASH Measures
✅ Psychosocial Support
✅ Event-Based Surveillance
✅ Risk Communication and Community Engagement

This marks the conclusion of a Points of Entry Capacity Strengthening Series that began in early May, spanning some of East Africa's busiest border crossings: the Elegu–Nimule border in northern Uganda and the Uvira–Gatumba border in Burundi.

The APHRC–EAC partnership continues to build a region where no point of entry is a weak link in the health security chain.
