@technollama@RobertFreundLaw Fair dos. I see you work in a field somewhat related to EU law? It's interesting - I work in translation and MT was always best at EU law, cos there are so many similar texts out there, and not too much ambiguitiy. Maybe general AI also works particularly well in this field?
@technollama@RobertFreundLaw Beyond very simple/restricted use cases, I think it almost entirely depends on whether you actually bother to check if what it is doing/saying is correct or not.
If you don't double-check, it seems good, if you double check or you know the topic, it's often very obviously bad
@barneyronay For once I didn't feel angry or frustrated or annoyed or tense or nauseous watching England: I just sat back and enjoyed the sumptuous football.
@nicbstme@paulg No the difference is that unlike all the other things you mentioned, everyone has already tried AI, but for most it’s just a bit meh.
I’d say AI-written emails were actually acceptable in 24/2025, but by now it’s already a sign of laziness or disrespect. It’s already passé
@barneyronay It's not about nationality, it's about hiring a series of conservative defensive-minded and horribly cautious coaches over a series of three decades. This is not about Terry Butcher-style courage, it's about bravery on the ball, ttacking, Johan Cruyff-style courage.
@nickarmitage@Tbabz__ It depends what kind of pro - I've played against one who played English lower leagues and another in the Norwegian second division and they were good but not that amazing. Players from top tier way above them I reckon
@williamnhutton I trained for a bit with a semi-pro team in Italy - in training, all of them could hit the ball into the corner from 20 yards if there was no one trying to block the shot, no problem.
The reason it doesn't happen all the time at the top-level is there is pressure on the ball.
@J_Stobrimore@jan_murray That's fair enough, but 177 episodes of the same repeated story is not for everyone.
It also depends on your mood – personally some years/decades I want repetition, some years I don't.
