Hey friends! If you are a cishet white guy in tech, like I am, please join me in something I've been practicing for a while. Leverage your privilege.
In every skip-level meeting, or 1:1 with management, say these three things:
Whelp. It was fun while it lasted at Mindbody. I've been laid off today along with several other folks. I'm going to take a few days to decompress, then I'll be diving back into interviewing.
@DragonKeepSL Oh! Fun! I don't think I would want to use gaffer's tape on a project like that. Since it's is fabric instead of the slick texture of duct tape, it would collect dust and scuffs really fast, and it would be really hard to clean.
When I get a new multi-purpose tool, I seem to use it everywhere for a while.
My latest new tool is gaffer's tape. It is genuinely wonderful stuff.
I bought a black roll, and loved it, so I bought a white roll, and a rainbow of fluorescent rolls.
@DragonKeepSL I'm not sure yet. I want to say: no.
One of gaffer's tape's best features is that it doesn't leave a gummy mess behind. So it's easily removable.
The fabric is really strong, but the adhesive is not as aggressive as duct tape.
Full and unilateral student debt cancelation has always been the most sensible policy. $50k and $10k undermine the entire push for cancelation. All of it is unjust. All of it is immoral. None of it should have ever happened. Student debt should have never existed.
@ErynnBrook Right after I scrolled past, the second two got mashed up in my mind, so I had to scroll back and read it again.
I thought it was "I have to pee again but now it's raining"
You know, the funny thing about the sharpest tool in the shed is that it either isn't doing anything useful, or it is only the sharpest tool for a very short time.
Tools lose their sharp edge as they are used to cut wood, and require frequent, careful resharpening.
@micahhainline Yeah. I do too sometimes. I've just had a bit of a chain of these for a while. I just want some tasks that I can complete quickly for a while.
