@ZylstraJohn@CaptionObvious0 40-60% yes vote?? You had to get rules changed just to get on the ballot. My guess, even with this sideshow, unofficial BS vote, is 80%+ vote Canada. Literally the only people voting yes are worling at the pathetically empty sign up tables.
And the provinces? Do they have any responsibility to stay in their lane? They’re happy to take federal money, indeed to instruct the feds how to spend it, but then balk at living up to the conditions. They continue to balkanize the internal common market, 158 years after Confederation was supposed to have ended the practice, even as they demand a say in international trade negotiations. They pass flagrantly unconstitutional laws asserting jurisdiction they do not have, then denounce Ottawa’s “domineering federalism.” They run roughshod over the Charter of Rights, then complain that it is the federal government that is violating the 1982 “bargain.”
The notion that in this, the world’s most decentralized federation, the problem is an overbearing federal government — when that government is paralyzed even to enforce the little jurisdiction that it possesses — is … hard to square with reality.
@JSJamato The purpose was recalling MLAs who are not doing their jobs or representing the will of their constituents. That’s what they’re doing. If that constitutes “overthrowing her govt” then I guess the problem is her govt isn’t representing the will of Albertans
@K1L0GY @TrueNorthWit @MichelleLA1981@grok I just wanted to make sure you knew that you were making up half the problems you claim we have. That was all, just knew you were wrong.
@Thundercattttt0@FoodProfessor This is anecdotal, but I had the same experience year over year. Direct from farm is the same, but the grocery store prices have skyrocketed
@FoodProfessor@littleRyan0 In particular, the beef count is at its lowest since 1989. Drought is driving up feed costs, and major beef companies have consolidated herds, especially after COVID. The herd will take years to regrow to last decade size and feed will continue to rise in price unless heat drops
@CrimewatchTO@CanBorder RCMP wanted this banned due to the modular design and available short barrels. Also, this is the most hilariously stupid gun I have ever seen.
@TodMartens3@clownyow@acoyne It's also very possible that his use of the section is ruled non constitutional by the Texas courts. But as of today, his actions to compel attendance to his gerrymandering bill is allowed, or at least it hasn't been challenged in court to decide one way or the other.
@TodMartens3@clownyow@acoyne Just to be clear, I don't think America allowing politicians to pick their voters is democracy, and I do think that Abbott is outside the intent of the section. But Americans have their country to fuck up as they see fit.
@clownyow@TodMartens3@acoyne I don't know why AlbertaBoy is so reluctant to share, but basically the governor is using an interpretation of the Texas constitution article 3 section 10 - Quorum, which allows for the enforced return of members by a mechanism of the House.
@clownyow@TodMartens3@acoyne Whether that law makes a lot of sense, especially in the land of the free, is a second debate. The governor is within the law to issue the warrants and compel the Democrat members to provide the quorum to pass the gerrymandering bill.
