The reason for this letter is for the sole purpose of Tesla’s Lithium-Ion Battery problem and the insufficient infrastructure for recharging stations, being too time-consuming and not as ideal for Teslas electric vehicles.
Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Jon Schroeder. I have a BS in Physics, studied Mechanical Engineering at LSU Monroe. Graduate work in Math/Physics, San Jose State University, San Jose, Ca, Graduate work in Electro-Mechanics, University of Texas, Austin. I have worked in Silicon valley in my earlier days as one may call a founder to what we know it now.
I founded and operated Micro Generators Inc., a firm specializing in the development of electric power generation. In 1990, I founded Trymer Company specializing in electric weapons and pulse power supplies for Navy, Army, Darpa, Special Forces and other branches of government. In 1976, I founded Silicon Connection Inc. in California. This company developed hand-held computer based products and specialized in packaging materials for VHSIC and Mil-standard Modules for Cruise Missiles. In 1974, I was associated with Micro Power Systems, in Santa Clara, California, serving as module manager, I developed the first commercial double metal CMOS process in the industry used with products such as heart pacers, 2-way phase-lock communications integration, hearing aids, digital watches, gas sensors, smoke alarms, and a full range of automotive as well as other types of products. This was the third occasion I introduced CMOS and the first time it was accepted, becoming an industry standard. From 1968 to 1970, I was with Texas Instruments as manager of process, product engineering and memory functions, developing multi-chip memory for mainframe and advanced military systems such as AWAC. During this time, I also founded Computer Micro Technology Inc. Sunnyvale, California where I pioneered memory products and modules. Prior to this, I was with Fairchild Semiconductor, Palo Alto, California. As a Member of the Technical Staff, MTS, I developed the Epitaxial processes which lead to the first junction isolated solid-state devices, which were directly related to integrated circuits. At Fairchild, I developed and guided many new and unique products through development and into manufacturing.
I was able to develop new products as a result of his streamlined processes and special device structures and developments. A list of his accomplishments follows.
First Practical Transistor – resulted from the development of a crystal growing process called “Epitaxial growth”. I read in Fortune Magazine about a company named Texas Instruments (TI) of Dallas, how they got started and how they were trying to make a practical transistor to compete with the vacuum tube. I researched the methodology while finishing a degree in physics, roughed-out the process, and took a job at TI upon graduation. In six months, the process was perfected and IBM and others could at last use the Germanium Transistor with confidence.
Epitaxial Silicon Transistor – I was recruited by Fairchild Semiconductor of Mountain View, California to improve their silicon epitaxial process.
Integrated Circuits – After silicon Epitaxy was established, I worked with device engineers to develop a process to form silicon transistors on the same chip. Each transistor was isolated electrically from one another and this accomplishment quickly led to the development of the first practical integrated electronic circuit family. This accomplishment quickly put Fairchild on the map as the premier integrated circuit producer in the world.
New Device Development – With the advent of the integrated circuit, there was a push to develop the large number of electronic building blocks that were necessary to build the electronics industry. I began developing copious quantities of original devices, based on a set of simple-to-use processes and transferring these new products into manufacturing. Every defense program in the nation used Fairchild parts, and I transferred as many as 23 new products into manufacture in 1964.
Ion-Implantation – I developed one of the first ion-implantation devices and used this process to place in production a complimentary set of core-driver array devices. The process was later improved and used to construct Complementary Metal Oxide Silicon (CMOS) devices. CMOS is now the world standard electronic fabrication methodology.
Cruise Missile Component Packaging – Very small semiconductor packaging was needed to make the cruise missile practicable. I used his packaging know-how to shrink the packaging (containment) to a size that made not only the cruise missile practicable, but cell phones, heart pacers, and numerous other consumer and medical devices.
The Memory Chip – Established the electronic memory industry to make possible the personal computer in the form of desktop, laptop, and handheld. I founded Computer Micro Technology to usher in the era of low-cost, solid-state memory. This was the first production of PMOS and the first time 21 chips were beam-leaded on a two-layer hermetic substrate to form a memory element that sold for less than ten cents per bit. This product and the products that followed made the Personal Computer practical.
Complementary Metal Oxide Silicon (CMOS) Device Architecture – I introduced CMOS in the industry on three different occasions, without any takers. It was the Medtronic Heart Pacer product that provided proof beyond any doubt that CMOS was not only a reliable process, and that CMOS circuitry requires one thousand-times LESS power, so devices such as heart pacemakers can operate as long as 15 years without battery replacement.
Barcode Scanner (FedEx) – Using a CMOS-fabricated microprocessor, the first barcode communications device was developed by myself , for use by FedEx package delivery systems, and the same model and design is still in use today, after more than 20 years.
Card Swipe Reader – I developed an Encryption System, the original system utilized by Bank of America for reading information from the magnetic stripe on credit cards when “swiped” through the reader. Bank of America was an early-adopter of this now-worldwide credit/debit card system, and card swipe readers are ubiquitous.
High Performance Kinetic-Energy Launcher – I developed a hypervelocity kinetic-energy launch system for the U.S. Navy, to place instrument packages halfway around the world in twenty minutes.
High Performance Pulse-Power Supply for U.S. Army – Because they were not about to let the Navy get away with such a thing, I was requested by the U.S. Army to develop a pulse-power supply to allow an electric (rail-type) gun to propel a projectile 500 miles when launched from a tank or similar vehicle.
Radiation Resistant Integrated Circuits for Space and Missile Operations – I made use of one of the first integrated isolation schemes to build radiation-resistant devices for space and warfare usage. All radiation-hardened devices use this methodology, including so-called “Smart Bombs” and GPS-guided ordinance.
Solid State Chiller – I have developed a 10-to-20-ton (HVAC equivalent) solid state chiller, based on the solid-state electric generator operating in a backward mode. This chiller can operate entirely on waste heat from a generator or can be powered using a small portion of the electricity the generator produces. Some of the chiller capacity can be used to strip water from the air���the use of these solid-state devices makes it possible for a household, ranch/farm, or village to manufacture electricity, fresh water and environmental control directly on site for direct use.
Epoxy-Earth Homebuilding System – I have developed and patented a simple method to convert low-cost coal into an epoxy that, when combined with dirt (earth) and/or other binder, can be formed into the pieces (self-locking building blocks; flooring tiles; roofing panels) needed to construct reliable shelters. The method allows the residents/users of these structures to build them quickly, with little skill/experience required, and can allow the construction of several hundred homes.
With all my inventions, technologies, and involvement in this industry, my biggest goal is to make this world we live in a better place. For our children and our children’s children. At the rate we are going at right now as Man kind, is very alarming and very disappointing. We are yet to reach half of our full potential.
