As expected the Red Wings sign Carter Mazur to a cheap test contract. Important to note his contract is not a two-way deal like Wallinder got. Seems pretty clear that Detroit will have him in a bottom-six role on the opening roster.
Looks like the Red Wings did qualify Simon Edvinsson. I’m actually shocked that they didn’t extend a qualifying offer to Carter Mazur. He’s a prospect it felt that everyone including the Wings front office were high on and one that was going to get a hit at the NHL soon.
#LGRW qualified RFAs Simon Edvinsson and Carter Gylander.
No QO for Carter Mazur, Wojciech Stachowiak, Alexandre Doucet, Michael Milne, Jakub Rychlovsky, and Wojciech Stachowiak. @PuckPedia

Liked the addition of Huerter at the deadline last year and I don’t think this is a terrible extension. Though this likely means Duncan Robinson is going to be waived.
A little concerning that the deadline for RFA qualifying offers is in less than two hours at 5pm with the biggest names being Carter Maxie and especially Simon Edvinsson. Expecting the news soon but feels like it should have been done already.

Alas though Cossa got dealt to Utah for a late first and a prospect that many people are very high on. I have no doubt that Cossa will become a good solid netminder for the Mammoth. I may be proven wrong in a couple years, but we shall see.
I'm going to be honest I don't like the trade. I might be too high on Cossa, but I really believed he was going to be a part of the Red Wings future. I especially thought that he would be Detroit's Starter after Gibson and tandem with Augustine. (More thoughts below) ⬇⬇️
I truly believed that Cossa and Augustine could have become a new Ullmark and Swayman tandem esque for the Red Wings. In that case even if they decided to choose Augustine over Cossa they could have done so getting some more value with the ceiling many fans saw from him.
I like the trade especially for the cost of acquisition being only 2 second round picks. Detroit gets another sharpshooter outside of Duncan Robinson who they will hopefully still keep. Now all eyes on a Duren extension and the big trade the Pistons seemed primed for.
@TaggReturns I do honestly believe Wallinder has a future and can become a solid defenseman. He’s got the size and his play has improved and can be refined into a minimum 3rd pairing.
The only way you push Chiarot down the depth chart is through a trade that could happen from a Larkin return
I’m glad we extended Wallinder, but he should really be given a shot to be regular in the lineup. He’s someone I’m very high on and I think the Red Wings shouldn’t have extended Chairot(at least not what his current extension is plus a full NTC)and brought him up instead.
I don’t think this trade was a good idea. While Ammo might not be a true center he like Wallinder should have been tested in the NHL. He would have been a good addition to Detroits bottom six who would do better than guys like Appleton, Compher, and especially Rasmussen.
