Just like in the last two years, I wrote a Reddit post introducing all the Master Duel WCS teams and players. Feel free to give it a read :) https://t.co/YJSw6K36vY
Yugioh uses lengthy but very precise language to explain what cards do, but is often repetitive among cards of similar types or themes. So Yugioh players often will learn patterns in the language, and ASSUME the card text based on familiarity. This often leads to minor, but potentially grave mistakes based on the anticipated language. If vs When; Hard vs Soft OPT effects; Use vs Activate; etc.
The issue in Yugioh is rarely a lack of reading comprehension, but rather an abundance of it. So much so, that wires are getting crossed because the average player’s depth of knowledge on the intricacies of card text can be overwhelming to manage. In my personal experience, I’ve found both myself and other players are more likely to make reading mistakes against cards they’re MORE familiar with than against cards they’re unfamiliar with.
