There is an old saying in social movements: "Don't make the perfect the enemy of the good."

There are good people in every tribe and every region of Nigeria who are sick of the evil darkness ruling the land. Sick of it. To reject working with them, outright, just because they were born in a different tribe — that is self-defeating foolishness.

I am not saying everyone can hold hands and skip down the road together. I am not saying drop your guard. I am saying be wise. It will take more than one tribe, more than one faction, to break this evil contraption. The only side that wins when potential allies are divided is the side doing the killing.

Over the past months I have spoken to people in multiple Biafran factions. Most of them are dear people I hold in the highest regard. Serious men and women. Serious cause.

But here is the tragic thing.

Pretty much every single one of them tells me their faction is the only pure one — and that everybody else is probably working for the government. Seriously.

If I were to accept that at face value, I would have to believe that every Biafran organization, every Biafran leader, every Biafran activist outside the one I happen to be talking to in that moment — every single one of them — is a Nigerian government agent. Of course, every member of every other tribe is a government agent as well.

That is not just unlikely. It is mathematically impossible.

What it is, is the oldest trick in the imperial playbook. Divide and conquer. The British did not invent it. The Caliphate did not invent it. The colonial powers refined it. Every regime sitting on a population that outnumbers it uses the same trick. Get the people who agree on 90 percent to fight each other over the 10 percent. Watch them tear each other apart while you keep the keys.

Now, are there government agents at work inside these movements? Almost certainly. They always are. But here is the hard truth — they do not even need to be.

The movement is doing a fine job of destroying itself from the inside.

Be honest with yourselves. There is no Biafra. There is no independent Yoruba nation. There is no self-determined Middle Belt. There is no liberated Niger Delta. There is no land. There is no nation. Only a righteous dream.

And so, there is nothing tangible to fight over -- yet! And if you keep fighting each other, there may never be.

If only you could work together long enough to cross the finish line — to actually win your freedom — then you could fight all you want over who is in charge of your new nation. Till then, you are your own worst enemies.

Till then, the people stirring division inside the movement are not fighting for a country. They are fighting for funding. They are fighting for prestige. They are fighting for a seat at a table that does not yet exist.

I am not saying conflicts and suspicions should go unresolved. They should be resolved and not left to fester. But they should be resolved privately, leader to leader, in rooms with the doors closed — not aired publicly as dirty laundry for the world to see. Doing it publicly is one reason why you fail.

I posted a photograph earlier today with a Yoruba group. The comments started rolling in. "You can't trust a Yoruba." "They are all corrupt." "They are all working for the government." One man wrote that the Yoruba have reptile blood.

I have heard the same thing said about every tribe in Nigeria. Some Igbo say it about the Yoruba. Some Yoruba about the Igbo. And on and on. Division within division within division.

This is not just tactically stupid. It is spiritually broken.

In Christ there is no slave or free, no Jew or Greek, no Yoruba or Hausa or Igbo or Berom or Ijaw or Tarok. Every people has its own culture. Its own traditions. Maybe its own genetic traits. That is something to celebrate, not to hate.

Tribe should be family, not a fight.

Once you all achieve self-determination — and I believe you will — there is no reason you cannot live as good neighbors. You should. The whole point of liberation is to build a society better than the one that oppressed you. If liberation just means new oppressors with different surnames, it was not worth the cost.

The righteous Berom and the Igbo agree on more than they disagree. The Middle Belt Christians and the Niger Delta Christians agree on more than they disagree. The honest Yoruba, the honest Hausa, and the honest Fulani have more in common with each other than with the men robbing their country blind.

They no doubt have a difference of vision on how they want to be governed after this evil regime is shelved. That is the point of self-determination. That is not division. That is recognition of the very reason this whole contraption does not work to begin with.

You are different. But you are not different in your desire to achieve self-determination. You are not different in your grievances against this government.

Unite, rise, and win.

Stay divided, and you will stay down. And continue to die.

The only ones celebrating when you fight each other are the men in the palaces, the embassies, the lobby firms, the Villa.

Be wise. Stay guarded where you must. But do not do the killers' work for them.

And do not let hate of a brother become the chain that keeps you in bondage.

This is an historic opportunity. You may never have it again.

The world is paying attention. The lobbying firms in Washington are sweating. The Muslim Brotherhood is sweating. The regime is sweating. That window does not stay open forever.

I am here to serve, not to lead. As an outsider, I cannot lead this movement, and I have no desire to. I have nothing personal to gain. It is all for the Kingdom of God and for the people of Nigeria — Christian, Muslim, and every honest soul of every tribe sick of the darkness.

My calling is to be a peacemaker and a unifier in the cause. So that you can finally bring about righteous regime change and true self-determination — and rise to your full, God-given potential.

The hour is now. The fight is yours. Your enemies are hoping you stay divided.

Don't give them what they hope for.
