Writing about a Green New Deal since 2008, PhD political science from CUNY,author Manufacturing Green Prosperity: The power to rebuild the American middle class
@andresintheory I cowrote an article with Howie Hawkins in 2020 (long story) & I go into some it there, https://t.co/Jy9flamxS7, but even the so-called architect of GND at the time was talking about 'bringing the govt to the table', not the govt owning the table, as it were. So that is indicativ
@andresintheory It's been a while since I read her book, but she is mostly describing how the state helped private firms. I remember during the Green New Deal days, various people would try their take, and inevitably it seemed to degenerate into subsidies & tax incentives...
@andresintheory Like many others, unfortunately she stops short in 'entrepreneurial state' -- 'The Big Con' is good too, but it also stops short. Leigh Phillips seems more interested in nukes than planning, but his book is very good.
@STS_News In the mid80s, while in the Columbia PhD program, Dreyfus debated Seymour Papert of Logo fame. We were on Dreyfus' side, & Papert gave us this 'you poor things' look & told us we would be replaced by AI in a few years. 40 years later, still waiting!
@STS_News OK, thanks. I don't quite remember his book, frankly, but he encouraged us when we were writing an activist computer newsletter in the 80s. Speaking of the 80s, Hubert Dreyfus might be an interesting read right now, because he was arguing that AGI was not possible.
@Matthuber78 Matt, did you know that the Chinese government basically owns the entire electrical grid in China (the bigger utility is the 3rd biggest company in the world) and also owns virtually all of the generating power? & we are talking about incremental increases in public utilities?
@Mauerback Oy vay. I don't think any of this would have happened if people around him like his first wife, Carol, who died in 2008, or Melman, who died in 2004, or several others, had been around him. Not to excuse what he did, just sayin'
@Mauerback A little late, but if you see this, condolences, but Brent Toderian suggests you guys should have a parade anyway because it was a great series. Sounds good to me!
@Mauerback Excuse me for stereotyping, but isn't that something Canadians have a hard time doing? I mean, maybe for hockey? And yes, I watched 'How I met your mother', but, for baseball?
@Mauerback Moi? No, last time I was a Dodgers fan was when Sandy Koufax was pitching 😄
More of a Giants fan for NL West, I guess Mets for NL, Yankees since my father saw Babe Ruth play.
So, good luck to ya, eh?
