Even if I live for another 100 years, I will never understand how this country, the cradle of democracy and the very cradle of journalism, has allowed this to happen.
For ten whole years, brave journalists have laid out the concrete evidence. The Russian embassy meetings, the shady deals, and the blatant collusion.
The truth has been staring everyone in the face.
Yet, a decade later, we still fail to see real accountability.
How can a system with such a proud history of a free press let the 'master of the grift' walk away untouched for so long?
It is exhausting to watch the truth being pushed aside while the political theatre continues 😳
Real accountability means having skin in the game. Ten years is far too long for a dangerous illusion to last.
Remember when Farage made fun of Starmer’s glasses?
Pulling out a pair himself, he joked:
“Do you like them? Very expensive, but guess what, I bought them myself, how about that?”
He’s not laughing now.
The wheels have not only come off for Nigel Farage, but they've caught fire and are speeding off down the road.
Everyone who has associated themselves with this grifter are now going to come under uncreased scrutiny — and not before time.
You don't have to lift many stones to see the creepy crawlies that live in the orbit of Farage.
For this particular tale of George Cottrell, the link to Brexit's Andy Wigmore is a strong one, but the darkest links are those to Montenegro.
As my prestigious colleague, @OneFinanceGuy, has been tirelessly pointing out for months, this Balkan nation seems to be the fulcrum on which much of the Cottrell empire rests.
As the character Deep Throat said in All the President's Men — just follow the money.
When I wrote last year about the three-month gap in Nigel Farage's register of interests, it garnered only some low-level attention. He was eventually found to be in breach of his duties as an MP for failing to register seventeen outside jobs.
SEVENTEEN.
They totalled £384,000, but this was judged to be inadvertent. He'd just forgotten almost half a million pounds worth of work.
But I, among others, pondered at that time, if he'd failed to declare these seventeen roles … what else could he be hiding?
Well, we are well and truly in the 'find out' phase now. Those stones are being lifted and lights shone into the darkest of his many, many cupboards.
And so far, the answer is … millions of pounds.
He has, quite literally hidden from the public eye, millions in undeclared cash, favours and services that were lavished upon him.
There is a set of seven ethical standards that all public office holders must adhere to in the UK.
The Nolan Principles.
Selflessness
Integrity
Objectivity
Accountability
Openness
Honesty
Leadership
Nigel Farage has obliterated the Nolan Principles.
Look at that list and tell me that he abides by a single one of those crucial tenets. Not a chance.
As with all things, Farage treats his role as an MP as a money making vehicle — nothing else.
Follow. The. Money.
Time is up, Nigel. Ticktock motherflipper.
Have a lovely Sunday, I'm going to look at some old planes and cars. 🛩️
It's a long overdue, "game over" for serial grifter and corrupt politician, Nigel Farage. More evidence surfaced today, beyond the £5 million bung from last month, that Farage has received substantial, undisclosed funding from convicted criminal, George Cottrell.
This is the end of Farage's political career, but just the beginning of the exposé against the man who has caused more financial damage to Britain than any other individual, through being the key figure behind Brexit.
He is a political figure who has caused no end of division and hatred to spread across the UK, all whilst selfishly pursuing his personal enrichment, at the cost of hardworking UK families.
His decades of grift and corruption are finally coming to an end, but the consequences for Farage will run many years into the future.
@samuelluckhurst Balls to him. What a whopper. Once-in-a-lifetime chance to join one of the biggest clubs in the world and he goes to effing Tottenham.
@Peston He shouldn't be compared to Johnson at all; a rotten, lazy and incompetent man totally unfit for public office, and a threat to national security. Burnham isn't going to be perfect, but he's not corrupt and greedy.
@MarinaPurkiss@linmeitalks Yes, there is stuff in Thailand that I consider weird and creepy (esp Pattaya and Phuket). Not all European men here are bad.... and many have loving and lasting relationships with Thai women. It's very difficult for single women 35yr+ here, so foreigners are a good option.
@linmeitalks Not all lonely white men are bad. Many are kind and loving to their Thai partners and this is reciprocated. Not all white men are perverts just because they have a Thai gf. Agreed, obvs, that abusing young Thai women and children is awful.
@jonmikesav8 He's looked really good in flashes. If he stays fit most of the time he'll be good next season with the European burden, even if only a squad player who starts 15-20 games.
