A poet with an overactive mind. Sharing the poems I write to express my thoughts, hoping they provide comfort or distraction to anyone feeling the same.
I really had to to stretch to get that last line in there but I couldn't leave it out π
. . .
do you remember? | inspired by "September" by Earth Wind & Fire
a sad man made up
a sadder story
to hide how scared and
inferior he
felt he just rewrote
his whole history
lying to himself
each night before he
started to believe
his own fake story
afraid we can't reach
him anymore he
stays safe in his fake
melancholy story

look at these dimwits
that think we're finished
they must be kidding
we wonβt let them
diminish our brilliance
we have no limits
we're kaleidoscopes,
our beautiful visions
are infinite
we're bouncing off
the walls of this prison
like billions of
light beams in a prism
7-10: serendipity
something intervened
maybe destiny
pulled strings
drew you next to me
if we never knew each other
who knows where weβd be
luckily for you and me
we had serendipity

7-7: growth (Gratitude 9 of 9)
the pang we get
of sharp regret
recalling awkward memories
that we'd rather forget
could be a gift
we cringe inward to fit
back in that moment
cuz we've outgrown it

7-3: princess (Gratitude 7 of 9)
shining star
from afar
following your heart
beautiful and smart
a golden spark
that lights the dark
it's like magic
how fantastic you are

He encouraged me to share by saying "Don't trap the mud in the bottle, that just makes all the water muddy." To a first grader, this was very deep and made perfect sense. I shared my pain. I let out the mud. And although I wasn't done crying, at least I could breathe again.
6-30: therapy (Gratitude 6 of 9)
your time
shared with me
despite my isolation
and breathless sobs
knowing you were
there with me
brought me clarity

My first therapy session was in the first grade. I was in my favorite hiding spot where no one could tease me for crying, sobbing so hard I could barely breathe. A fifth grader found me and sat quietly with me for a while, just outside the door.
6-28: games (Gratitude 5 of 9)
let's play, me and you
any game, you choose
because win or lose
it's just an excuse
to spend time with you
but let's tell the truth,
i'm not gonna lose

6-26: friends (Gratitude 4 of 9)
i spent so much time
lamenting their absence
isolated in my mind
feeling deprived,
only to find
an embarrassment of riches
had already found me

6-23: gift (Gratitude 3 of 9)
drawn to
dreamt up nonsense
luminous delusions
threads of ether
we somehow weave
into reality
what an unbelievable gift
we have received
---

6-20: noise (Gratitude 2 of 9)
bumped records
and cds. thoughts repeat.
relentless. to silence
this torment
i turn up a playlist
joyful noise and movement
to improve the mood with
rhythm, lyrics, lift the spirits
all bangers and no skips

reaching out #poem#gratitude
it means the world to me now
recalling how you reached out
up into the stormy clouds
of my nebulous thoughts
to offer love and comfort
and soothe my unique concerns
uncertain if your efforts
were even being heard
i assure you, they were
6-12: or whatever that means
it seems
long sought serenity
may lie in embracing
the immense complexity
of being

5-18: dance
set me ablaze
wrapped in your arms
held in your gaze
singing lyrics we made up today
we embrace beautiful mistakes
and chase our blues away

5-17:
tense hands
curled up in the sand
tiny sun-baked shards
of seashell and stinging salt
draw red from my palm
through gritted teeth
I draw in air
to the rhythm
of gently roaring waves
then attempt to clench
my fists and jaw
and experience the calm
