Seeing a different 100-mph arm every AB and playing against a global talent pool is definitely more difficult on a per-AB basis than seeing the same guys over and over and over for an entire season.

But you know what else is hard? The train ride from New York to St. Louis, poorly-manicured fields, playing center when the fence is 461 feet from home plate and there are obstacles in play, and the lack of modern medicine, training, equipment, nutrition, rehabilitation, load management, and so on.

It's a different game with different challenges. Hitting a baseball has never been harder, but existing in real life from one day to the next has never been easier.

My hot take is this: I think the players of a century ago would have a much easier time adapting to the baseball-specific challenges of the modern game than today's players would have adapting to the general lifestyle challenges of the mid-20th century.
