STUFF WATCHED 2022 Pt. 5
DINER: Despite a stuffed and quite inane plot, this is another immensely satisfying visual feast from Ninagawa. This time it’s food porn and hyper-vibrant neon all the way, with a pretty terrific action scene or two thrown in.
HELTER SKELTER: This instantly became one of my favourite films. Vibrantly colourful and just gorgeous throughout, Mika Ninagawa is unsurpassed with her production and visuals. Erika Sawajiri provides a captivating and commanding central performance you can’t look away from.
Death of the Outsider is free next week so there’s no better time to dip into The Dunwall Diaries for mission-by-mission analysis of the design and lore of the Dishonored games.
I was pretty happy with my coverage of DOTO’s opening level One Last Fight:

My wish for 2023 (one of them)

Bunch of Peelthoughts going up on PC Gamer over the Christmas break, for you to read in the downtime between your six meals a day. Here’s the first! https://t.co/Vaek4my5CI
HELL DOGS: Sensational, no holds barred close quarters action and very memorable characters in this latest team up from Masato Harada and Junichi Okada. Overly expository and talky at times, but still an easy recommend for fans of action, Yakuza stuff and nihilistic noir.

THE BIG 4: Timo Tjahjanto mixes the brutal and stylish action of his The Night Comes For Us with comedy to uproarious results. His cast is fantastic and the movie is just incredibly entertaining. If you like headshots then boy, you are in for a treat. Killer!
