Five years ago today I buried my 12-year-old daughter Semina.

After reporting to police she had been groomed, raped, beaten and bullied Semina took her own life after being told it was her word against his.

18 months later an IOPC report showed that the detective in charge of the case had an admission of guilt but failed to arrest him.

Semina nor myself were told at the time he had admitted to the rape, if she had been told she would still be here instead she was failed by all authorities payed to protect her and died thinking she wasnt believed. 💔

Mohammad Hassan Al Bayati was working at the Homebush DFO when he took the child away from the play area while her mother shopped.

He moved her to an area without CCTV coverage and that's when the attack happened.

In 2019 a court sentenced him to four and a half years in prison with a minimum of two and a half years to serve. He had arrived in Australia by boat in 2011 and held a permanent protection visa.

The government at the time ordered that his visa be cancelled and that he be deported after serving his sentence.

A security guard trusted to protect the public. A toddler taken from a playground. A sentence that left many asking why he was still in the country at all.

In November 2011, he was indicted in the Eastern District of New York for CONSPIRACY TO POSSESS WITH INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE HEROIN AND COCAINE and ultimately convicted of those offenses.

In 2018, Gutierrez-Espinal was convicted of DRUG TRAFFICKING in Ohio, following an investigation by ICE HSI special agents and the South Central Ohio High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force.

Our Columbus officers arrested him upon release from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction July 13.

His 2017 final removal order means he’ll be deported.

California law requires juveniles convicted of even the most serious crimes, including murder, to serve their sentences in county juvenile halls, with release required on or before their 26th birthday. Many juveniles convicted of murder serve only 2-3 years before being released.

Gary Grover was convicted as a juvenile of murder and attempted murder. Since his release, our Gang Suppression Unit has arrested him 3 times for illegal firearm possession. He led Deputies in a vehicle pursuit, crashed into innocent motorists, failed to appear in court 4 times, accumulated multiple felony no bail warrants, and once again required a foot pursuit before being taken back into custody.

“Reforms” to California’s juvenile justice laws have gone too far. Enough is enough.
