New: The municipalities that voted to rescind the I-77 toll lane project could have to pay NCDOT back for sunk costs.

I obtained a draft amendment circulating the legislature. It would be an amendment to HB1094. Lawmakers are expected to gut and amend it with a DOT omnibus. However there are some folks involved with this process who believe this is not the appropriate vehicle for this language and would rather see a version of this in the budget.

It would require municipalities to pay back NCDOT for the sunk costs proportionate to their weighted vote. So Charlotte would bare most of the more than $60 million for I-77. NCDOT would also withhold Powell Bill funds until paid in full.

To be clear about what this depicts: An immigration officer threw a woman onto the ground. Alex Pretti, a registered nurse on scene as a legal observer, is filming and goes to help the woman up. He is then pepper sprayed and thrown to the ground for no discernible reason. Many officer surround and assault him; one removes his firearm, which police say appears to have been legally registered. They then execute him with a hail of bullets.

They are, objectively speaking, both cowards and criminals, while Pretti is what we teach people an American ought to be.
