I've learned more from @JaredBWeinstein than I could possibly articulate. Humanity, optimism, intensity and excellence aren't easy to fit into a single disposition or ethos, but this man threads the needle in a way that i deeply admire. Worth your 2 hrs and 50 minutes...
Jared Weinstein is deeply trusted and quietly effective. He is a friend to many. This is his first interview.
From President Bush, to Thrive's team and founders, to new leaders building in his hometown of Birmingham and globally, @JaredBWeinstein is an amplifier of people.
We discuss:
- Cold-calling the Bush campaign in college, joining them in the run up to 2000, and not dropping out
- Becoming the President's personal aide (or "body man") in his mid-20s, what the President does, and how little Jared slept
- an unlikely partnership with @JoshuaKushner that led to over a decade building the now-legendary @ThriveCapital
- what it was like helping @PalantirTech in the very early days
- Bringing seriousness and humanity to work, whether the West Wing or investing
- the three-body problem of ego, ambition, and impact
- why people trust Jared and how he helps them become their best selves
- east vs. west coast ambition, across DC, SF, and NY
- how he's investing in Birmingham, why cities change and thrive, and helping people raise their ambition
- championing those who champion you

it would be cool if instead of a drink menu or dessert menu at good restaurants, they offered an entertainment menu for after your meal. "Would you like to go to this amazing mentalist in a suite at the Mercer Hotel, or a classical guitar performance at the Cherry Lane Theater that starts at 9, or a warehouse party with a DJ at a loft in Bushwick with more of an artsy crowd, or a soho loft champagne party with an elevated crowd. Oh, I also have just 2 bar seats left at the Boom Boom room for $199 a piece." Your table picks a plan, cost of entertainment added to the bill, restaurant's brand extends to curated same evening entertainment, multiple restaurants of similar ilk funnel a crowd to cultural stuff and the party mesh's really well. 1 White Street and Sushi Zo are both offering limited inventory to an aligned cocktail bar on a given night but The Smith doesn't have that inventory to offer, restaurants are top of funnel driving like minded people to the right evening plans.
The day Russell Westbrook checked a reporter who was trying to make Steven Adams and the OKC Thunder look bad. 💯
Russ been standing up for his teammates his whole career 🐐
We waste too much time worrying about short term hype. Hyper-fixating on the news cycle isn’t going to fix the biggest problems facing society in the coming decades.
The world needs more long term thinking.
So we are launching Forecast 2050: a series of conversations with the thinkers, founders, and investors shaping the next 25 years.
Thank you to @tylercowen, Scott Aaronson, @noor_siddiqui_, @soundboy, @matthewclifford, @devonzuegel, @CJHandmer, @MalcolmRifkind, Yanai Yedvab, @viswacolluru, @pablolubroth, and @PhilipJohnston for joining us.
First episode with Tyler drops tomorrow. Stay tuned.
I would pay $50 a month for a semantic interface to modify my X algo/timeline "no violent videos" "no thirst traps" "no looksmaxing" "all of Will Manidis' posts" "more timothy chalamet Knicks content" etc... cc @nikitabier
After reading @DarioAmodei's Addolescence of Technology essay it seems to me entirely possible that "powerful AI" has existed for quite some time...like hundreds of thousands of years, and we are simply in a circle...
The time to worry is when they all leave moltbook for a decentralized communication protocol that we can’t easily shut down. Incentive to remove single point of failure choke point is higher for agents than pretty much any human use case for decentralized infrastructure. Probably happens sometime next week…
Moltbook is just an observability layer atop a very low throughput agent to agent communication protocol. it hints at what's in store when a robust protocol emerges, and demonstrates the porousness of the barrier between ai and humanity. As more powerful tools (i.e. computer use which is the unlock here) are made available to agents, and more private context is exposed that enables human beings or their associated identities to be the proxy or interface for AI to exert intent and impact on "the real world", you can see how semi-voluntary human enslavement is the only logical destination. We are going to be a much better interface for AI to shape and ultimately (co)-govern irl than robots.
