This 3-minute @smerconish about America might be the best “feel good” clip you’ll watch this 4th of July.
Over a million foreign World Cup fans arrived expecting the tense, angry, divided America their screens had shown them.
Then they met us and found the friendly, generous, welcoming country we were promised growing up.
The polls measure Washington. The visitors measured us. The gap between the two might be the most American story of all. Happy 250th, America. 🇺🇸
I very rarely do serious posts but the Outdoor Boys YouTube channel was a personal favorite.
I lived vicariously through his videos camping and hiking in Alaska. Was rare to find a creator who just did cool shit without resorting to clickbait.
Will miss him.
Temper Temper:
On March 15, 1952, while operating off the coast of Korea, the USS Wisconsin received its first and only direct hit from a North Korean 155mm gun battery. The shell struck the shield of a starboard-side twin 40mm gun mount, causing minor damage to the ship and injuring three sailors, but no fatalities.
In response to this attack, the crew of the USS Wisconsin, fueled by anger and a desire for retribution, returned fire with all nine of their Mark 7 16-inch guns. This powerful response completely obliterated the North Korean Artillery battery. Afterwards, the USS Duncan signaled to the Wisconsin the message, “Temper, Temper!”
