We're excited to have @lcs_castillo visiting from Warwick with us for three months! Don't miss his talk at the @socmathpsych conference in Tilburg next week! He will be talking about using random generation tasks to learn how people generate samples for choices, etc.
📢 We are currently looking for a lab manager (full position, permanent contract) to support our lab (@GenPsychLab) together with the @DHPRlab (PI:

As I advise all my PhD students if you only have your academic life every failure in academia will feel like the end of your world. It is not. You are more than your CV. Find joy and happiness in other activities, in your family, friends. #AcademicChatter#phdlife
@KSchaferPhD So, so relatable! Had this ever since undergrad. “If I get my BSc… if I get my MSc… if I submit my PhD thesis on time…”. I’ve just submitted my thesis (on time!) and now it’s “if I just get this published…”. 😭
@sciliz It‘s brilliant that you are making a stand and I very much appreciate it! I have always been a little panic-prone so the negativity worries me. I genuinely love research and maybe don’t want to be faced with the prospect that my dream isn’t what it is cracked up to be :(
@sciliz The system is clearly broken. But as a 1st gen student with low-self esteem, the negativity has caused me to have a full-blown panic attack more than once. It would be encouraging to read about the positives. I don’t think talking about good and bad need be mutually exclusive.
A friend of mine told me that one of his first academic talks was severely criticized by a senior academic, and that night he went back to his hotel and considered killing himself. And I wondered how many people this happens to.
In a new study, out in Attention Perception and Psychophysics, @ananyapassi and I have cool insights to share about a fascinating cross-modal association called the Bouba-Kiki effect. Consider the shapes below: which shape would you call a Bouba? 1/n https://t.co/jt0iwYW2ky
@melnickjeffrey1 …often my supervisor will randomly talk about something non-work related for a short while. Not sure if he does this on purpose but definitely works and gets me out of the despair pit. Also once recommended doing a breathing exercise which was very sweet and appreciated!
@melnickjeffrey1 Crier perspective: If it is down to a specific event, then I appreciate a “I am here if you want to talk about it”. If it is due to poor mental health/imposter syndrome/stress/“I want to quit, I feel like crap”…
