To be honest, in the beginning, there's no way I would have bought into just how easy you can (should) train to improve.
I grew up on hefty doses of threshold(+) work (4+mmol/L)
Then I was fortunate to meet a coach a level up from where we were who was doing a lot of solid aerobic, but sub-threshold, work with his swimmers. (~2mmol/L)
Then I was fortunate to meet a coach who was truly world-class and saw just how much very low intensity work (~1mmol/L) he was doing with his swimmers (who were dominating everyone!)
In retrospect, I wish I had jumped straight to step 3.
But, I get it, it's a journey...
