Parent child has officially been merged into the Ordinals protocol!

This is a big day for Ordinals!

On chain provenance is something unique to digital art.

And on chain hierarchies of provenance is now something unique to Ordinals!

Art is more than just the paint on a canvas or the pixels on your screen.

It’s about the story it tells and how it makes you feel.

Parent-child open up the doors to building rarity design and storytelling through on chain provenance.

It also brings tough decisions into the creative process.

Do you keep the parent virgin?

Do you burn the parent to cap the collection?

How many hierarchies or layers of parent-child do you include?

Does someone create children off an Ordinal from a collection that isn’t part of the official collection?

These are all the factors that could add or decrease the value to the initial art

Game theory in the form of art!

Just like recursion and reinscription have done, this opens the doors to heaps of technical, artistic and creative use cases that are completely unique to Ordinals.

This has been possible for a while, but being merged is a big deal!

We’ve been playing around with this for months, but there was always a chance that it never became officially implemented.

So it’s pretty exciting to see it officially merged into ord.

Just another reason more and more artists will choose Bitcoin to publish their most prized works!
