to those who are curious, I did some research:
Android: ~73% global market
iOS: Around ~27% global market
Google Play Store: $46.7 billion revenue (2024)
Apple App Store: $103.4 billion revenue (2024)
What's instantly funny is that even though iOS only accounts for ~27%, it generates 2x more revenue than the Google Play Store.
Now talking about revenue:
Android apps make money more from ads.
iOS apps make more money from subscriptions.
Dominant demographics:
Android: India, Africa, etc.
iOS: USA, EU
So Android does get a lot of low-converting traffic,
while iOS gets less traffic but more converting.
You can launch an app and +70% of your income will come from iOS and only 30% from Android approximately.
Makes you think, is it even worth building for Android at all? I think no.

President Ramaphosa will sign the BELA Bill into Law September Friday the 13th. Here’s a summary of the bill:
First, the BELA Bill doesn’t touch much on issues such as schools curriculum, pass rates, subjects offered.. its primary focus is on administration and management processes in schools.
Some finer details of the amendment haven’t been clearly discussed, but here’s what we know:
- Inclusion of Grade R as compulsory schooling mandate under the SAS Act. This amendment said to relieve parents of the financial burden associated with Grade R education, particularly in no-fee schools.
- Language Policies: currently SGBs in public schools have so much power over policies such as the schools main language used. The BELA bill will transfer some of that power to the HOD ( I guess the minister of basic education). Some schools uses language of the minority learners, which is discriminatory to the majority… like what we see in most ‘Afrikaans public schools’ hence some people are angry😡. The HOD office will have to approve looking at the demographics
- Also admission into all public schools, decision making authority will be transferred to the HOD. This change was influenced by discriminatory admission practices observed in some schools.
- Will also give monitoring authority of learner’ school attendance to educators, principals, and school governing bodies, also outlining steps to be taken when a child is absent from school. Criminalise parents who keep children away from school, miximum 12 months jail time
- Prohibiting initiation practices in schools like what some schools do to Grade 8 learners. These practices said to make new learners feel uncomfortable.
- Prohibiting Corporal Punishment. Providing guidelines on how to discipline learners.
- On Home Schooling. Before a learner is registered for home schooling the department will send officials for pre registration site visit. The minister will provide other regulations on home schooling.
- The bill proposes that a code of conduct developed by a school must be sensitive to cultural beliefs and religious observances. The code of conduct must also contain a section which allows pupils to request an exemption from complying with certain parts of the code of conduct.
In 2005, a medical technician invented Rapex to help prevent rape in South Africa. It resembles a female condom with sharp teeth. Any man who attempts to rape a woman impales himself on the teeth and must go to hospital to have the device removed
ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa penned this FINAL LETTER to DA Leader John Steenhuisen after he responded to their meeting and the proposals put on the table on the formation of the GNU Executive. The deal with the DA is on a knives edge over the Department of Trade and Industry. The DA is a virtual FedEx later this afternoon to decide on whether they taking the deal or not. #sabcnews
Jacob Zuma says that journalists are failing to correct the misuse of the name government of national unity.
He gives a ten minute explanation about why the 1994 government of national unity was formed and why the 2024 label is disingenuous and disinformation.
