Would it really be so bad if more US residential streets looked like this? Low-rise multifamily, six units per 2,750 sqft lot, 216 homes along a 500 foot long block.
"America is too big and spread out for bikes.”
Except most people aren’t driving from Seattle to Miami. A THIRD of all trips are one mile or less. HALF are three miles or less.
The potential for transformation is huge. But only if we stop making excuses and start making space.
I’m very sad to report that 86-year old Joe Shami, well-loved by the community & famous for his 600+ consecutive weekly bike rides to the Mt Diablo summit, passed away after being hit by a driver in the Olympic roundabout in Lafayette yesterday. Rest in peace, Joe.
DANGEROUS WAVES: Don't let this happen to you. Strong winds are causing high waves to pound the shoreline along Lake Michigan. Stay off the the lakefront trail. https://t.co/6He8PT33Wj
@jodirren@rachelswan@sfmta_muni Coming from someone who knows the situation better than nearly anyone. Valencia has a lot of problems but if we dont listen to our local bike shops about these issues we may see the last of them finally be pushed out of the city.
@jodirren@rachelswan@sfmta_muni Its obvious you dont really understand the situation. VC takes in big deliveries all the time where they cannot take into account the actions of drivers. Though i can see the benefit of a protected bike lane, as they were proposed, they could potentially cause more problems.
If you are a bike advocate, planner, or engineer, I recommend riding your bike and following all traffic laws to the letter at least some of the time. This enables you to better understand what the intended design experience is, what’s broken, and how to fix it.
@SprocketBlog@FitzTheReporter@BikeIndex@sfbike Of course my bikes are all registered but still an incredibly low chance of a bike being recovered, especially in the city. not a risk I would ever be willing to take.
@FitzTheReporter Of the city who are already burdened by the insane cost of living. If the city wants to truly promote the use of alternative transit methods then stopping the rising cost of transit should be a much greater priority.
P.S. having a private company run bike share is stupid
@FitzTheReporter But costs associated with this method of commuting often make me opt for a different for of transit such as the various public transit systems the city has to offer. With this rate hike it is only another financial pressure placed on the backs of the large portion
