Zimbabwean leaders appear profoundly disconnected from the realities on the ground. The country is losing billions due to worsening traffic congestion, while chaotic and increasingly dangerous behaviour on the roads is becoming the norm. What is urgently needed is the establishment of a reliable and efficient public transport system—comprising a metro rail network and a fleet of public buses. At the same time, stricter controls on the importation of private vehicles must be implemented to ease pressure on urban infrastructure and restore order to the roads.
