A police officer who was one of the first at the scene this morning told me this is "one of the worst" accidents he's ever seen @MENnewsdesk

The vehicle involved in the accident appears to have hit the tree on the roundabout. The top of the tree is by the wreckage with some branches on the road @MENnewsdesk

Local residents who live on the estate next to the roundabout say this is the third accident to happen here in the last couple of years. One woman said: "This roundabout is notorious. 2025's not even ended yet and we've had another one." @MENnewsdesk

Police have confirmed that one person has died and another person is seriously injured @MENnewsdesk

The roundabout is closed from every direction but some police tape has now been removed, although this may be for emergency service vehicles to pass through @MENnewsdesk

One resident of a nearby estate was walking his dog when he heard about the accident which had happened an hour earlier. He is saddened by the situation saying "it could be somebody's kids" @MENnewsdesk

There's some more police tape by the entrance to the Irlam Community Woodlands to stop walkers approaching the roundabout on foot @MENnewsdesk

A cordon has just been put up just before the roundabout where the accident took place. The vehicle involved is still there @MENnewsdesk
