@veatchr during that episode the patient has say, voice, etc in process, maintains full custody of their self, but the hospital/provider is responsible for what happens to them in most cases

@veatchr the discharge really is in reference to admission - upon admission the hospital accepts responsibility or liability to care for the patient, discharge represents the end of that prticular episode, and yes can be initiated by the patient or the provider.
