there is something in these photos that nobody is talking about.

the earth, seen from the moon’s surface, is a crescent. the same shape we see the moon from earth. which means from where these astronauts stood, our entire world, every human being alive, every city, every ocean, every mountain, was receiving light the same way the moon does.

dependent. reflective. not a source but a receiver. and God placed both of them, earth and moon, in a gravitational relationship so precise that if either one shifted slightly, the conditions for life dissolve completely.

He did not just create them. He positioned them. He calibrated the distance. He calculated the tilt. He set the orbital speed. and then He rested.
what that tells me about God is something i am still processing.

He is not a God who creates carelessly and steps back. He is a God who creates with intention so deep that billions of years later, the greatest scientific mission of our generation goes out there and finds everything exactly where He left it. the craters on that moon are not evidence of chaos.

they are evidence of endurance. of something built to absorb impact and remain.

God put that quality into the moon because it is His own quality. He absorbs everything this world throws at existence and remains. unchanged. unshaken. still in orbit. still faithful. still holding everything He made in the dark.

Did Ghana Armed Forces Drop the Ball?

1. In the Commonwealth, some Heads of State choose to show solidarity with the armed forces of which they are the Commander in Chief (CIC) by appearing in ceremonial regalia.

2. Some do (Kenya, Sri Lanka, Gambia, Botswana, Britain, Nigeria etc. Etc.) Some don't (India, South Africa, Mauritius etc.) No biggie. Matter of preference. Even in countries where Heads of State usually don't, like India, the Head of Government occasionally does. Like PM Modi rocking camouflages once in a while.

3. I mention "Commonwealth" because military protocol is one of the few things where the whole world in modern times seems comfortable in borrowing wholesale from Europe. Even Chinese communist generals (like USSR generals) follow European traditions.

4. Ghana borrowed virtually all its military dress protocol, honours system, drill manuals, aiguillette usage, everything, from the colonial British. The few changes made are mostly cosmetic. In this, Ghana is like most countries in the world in embracing European traditions. Even Castro's Cuba.

5. In some ways, therefore, it is pointless to quibble about the "right way" to use military regalia. It is a colonial relic anyways.

6. Yet, protocol matters. Only because it shows attention to detail. Ghana has embraced those traditions and must be able to show consistency and fidelity to the logic underlying them.

7. I have observed the President in both Navy and Air Force ceremonial wear. On both occasions the CIC  uniform is festooned with medals. See images attached.

8. Strangely, however, some of the medals I have seen are "earned" ones. They are "operational" decorations. They are not ceremonial. Unless a superior explanation is forthcoming, the practice constitutes a protocol breach by the Armed Forces.

9. There is no problem with a CIC wearing the ceremonial tunic, gold aiguillettes, sword with full dress knot, and peaked caps with embroidered visors. Across the Commonwealth, ceremonial wear for Heads of State in their CIC capacity involves these elements because they are simply markers of distinction and authority.

10. Where the Ghana Armed Forces need to watch it is the casual emblazoning of the uniforms they give the President with service, operational, and other earned medals.

11. Doing so makes Ghana look like a tinpot banana Republic where Heads of State who have not seen active duty, who are not retired service personnel, and who have not been awarded for valour or gallantry adorn themselves with medals specifically designated for long service, peacekeeping, courage under fire etc.

12. In the Navy Dress, the President was clearly decorated with UN peacekeeping medals. Then there are distinguished service and special duty honours. And most bizarre of all, campaign service and operational support medals.

13. You can see a picture of a Kenyan President in ceremonial dress attached. Protocol costumers carefully left out the medals. You see cords and sashes representing his national (civilian) honours. The Presidents of Botswana and Gambia favour plain field dress with the CIC insignia.

14. President Rawlings also eschewed honours he hadn't earned. As a retired Airforce man, he usually kept his aviation badge.

15. There is no issue if the medals are all carefully selected to reflect the President's high civilian rank and achievements within the national honours system. As I said, this matters ONLY to the extent that ATTENTION TO DETAIL is critical for all aspects of managing national life. In fact, weak attention to detail is what, in policy circles, manifest as Katanomics (https://t.co/cotGMgyAOc).

(If, somehow, standard medals have been replicated for ceremonial purposes, then fine. But I searched and couldn't find any roll or published regulations that would support that interpretation.)
