To gain permission to use Darth Vader for The Indian in the Cupboard (1995), the director simply called George Lucas and asked. The director was Frank Oz, the puppeteer and voice of Yoda.
Also totally forgot Steve Coogan was in this; his first Hollywood film appearance.
Liza Minnelli is one of the strongest arguments that nepotism can open a door but can’t create a legend. Being Judy Garland’s daughter got attention. Winning an Oscar and becoming a singular stage and screen presence is what made her Liza Minnelli.
The “Marcus Brody cut” in Indiana Jones is a masterclass in comedic editing. It works flawlessly because Spielberg isn’t just subverting the scene, he's weaponising our own knowledge of his filmmaking style against us.
Happy heavenly birthday, Denholm Elliott
CONAN AT HARVARD: “No university in our nation has produced more Nobel laureates or white collar criminals… so whether you choose good or evil, know that you are among the very best.”
Time I address the elephant in the room…..There I was, trying to enjoy a Mets game like a normal American. And who shows up sitting behind me? THAT WALL-CRAWLING MENACE! And what is he doing? Save the city? OH NO!!! SITTING IN PREMIUM SEATS PROBABLY PAID FOR BY MY TAX DOLLARS!!!
Fred Astaire realistically prepared for this "drunk dance" in "Holiday Inn" with Marjorie Reynolds by downing shots of bourbon between each take. After 6 takes - and six shots - he approved the scene as the best rendition of all.
Priscilla Presley on working with Leslie Nielsen in "Naked Gun" movies:
"It was difficult to get through a scene with Leslie Nielsen. He was great, and I miss him very much, but he passed. It was hard to get through these things, laughing at each other. He would start laughing, crying with laughing until the director would come and he would say 'Okay kids, we're going to take this seriously'. Now we're on our fourth take and as he's talking to me, you don't see me, I'm looking away, I'm cracking up. He was so good, so deadpan. Well, I was good too."

P.S: Happy 81st birthday, Priscilla Presley!
Paul McCartney joined Stephen Colbert's band on trumpet for "When the Saints Go Marching In" during the final episode of The Late Show.
Per Jon Lampley: "One of the many surreal last moments on the stage of the Ed Sullivan theater. Sir Paul McCartney told me during our rehearsal that his father bought him a horn when he was young and he worked out how to play 'When The Saints Go Marching In.' I asked if he still had it and offered my horn and the rest is literal history."
