Has been a busy 6 months of the year so far, with a great start in the Central west in most places. Demos and trials are in and up to showcase the best options for our clients and client crops and pastures are firing away. Here’s hoping the final 6months are as good as the last!
And now for something different - forage sorghum demo with post-em broadleaf chemical matrix, sown 5 weeks ago (5th December) multiple forage sorghum options compared to millet on quality and quantity as summer opportunistic feed. GM to be compared to grain for ROI. Stay tuned!
@Lukecarr1982 Hi Luke, have a look at these numbers - Feedpedia is a great online source for the values on what you are feeding for a starting point and I agree those numbers from MLA may be gross energy not net. Give me a call if you want to discuss further 👍 (scientific name in pics)
@Agrista_au@lawbal44 Would have thought agronomics(soil nutrient status/type, rainfall data, pasture species/palatabilty/quality) go in hand equally, can’t make mgt decisions without them and therefore economic decisions if that application will ️ performance. Graphic definitely gets you thinking 🤔
@Agrista_au@lawbal44 But definitely like the conversations around pasture management this raises showing that it’s not the poor cousin to a cropping enterprise!
@Agrista_au@lawbal44 Thanks for that, I do agree there is a linear correlation with fert applications/pasture improvement/higher carry capacity, I do feel this is a little oversimplified in regards to profit drivers without delving down into some other factors in the agronomics/management of growers
That’s it for this spot for 2023, the TR86 ran well over the 200+ ha without any major dramas in everything from 6tn/ha spots to 0.5tn/ha, gave the R62 a run for its money only 15ha ahead at the end - all up average should get close to 2tn(final deliveries haven’t gone yet)
Racing the silver bullet, R62 (talk about back to the future!) 😂
Looks light but yields are good so far in Lancer and Reliant wheats with both going APH1 with little in-crop rain. (I’m in Lancer and he’s in Reliant) with a little later sow date to avoid those frost we had.
Opened up the wheat last week but same as canola, issues with moisture being just on the edge with 15% in the best areas. This hot weekend will make it ready by Monday! Dodged a fair few big storms and cut out the worst spots last week and still achieved APH2! More to come…🤞
Canola last week, good and bad spots😐 27/11/23. Moisture of direct head canola still giving grief so samples needed but the new posifeeder drum on feederhouse made a massive improvement with even feeding on the old girl, kept a very even feed at higher speeds without plugging!
If you apply a tank mix at a rate of 55 L/ha with a medium spray quality at a boom height of 1 m, only 33 L of the spray will hit the ground directly 💧🌱
The target weeds will be exposed to a low rate, reducing the efficacy of the spray job.

@HertelKathi@RohanLeach That’s the trick Kathi, good coat swirled around inside before pushing in. I found re-treating inside from the tip with a thinner layer (silicon spray works well to not overapply) to keep it from sticking each time.
This pic scares me in managing off target drift. It’s not always about your neighbours it’s also about your time and cost when results you wanted doesn’t happen. The right conditions doesn’t require a light like this regardless of the products used @SOSMacquarie@spraydriftgirl
Summer trials progressing well (did not consider how hot spray suits are when I went down the applied research path🤦😂) Won’t be long until winter trial are here, hopefully a big year (and a average year🤞) ahead.
The only thing good about getting your flight cancelled from @Qantas yesterday whilst waiting hours for it to go is that you get enough time to go to the happiest place on earth 😂🍻(Mickey can suck it!!!)
Thankfully harvest is coming to an end Barley going well with a few problems - rejected load from one site for low test weights (moisture good) then a new site 100km away tw good, moisture too high 🤬 they need better calibration! In between that getting plots off on the day job!
