@mcdermottkc_@AndyBurnhamGM Interestingly, more Tory Party members voted for to be PM than Burnham received from the voters of Makerfield. In the Truss v Sunak leadership election, many in Labour were demanding a GE. I bet there won’t be calls from inside Labour now as Burnham has less of a mandate.
Labour’s Peter Kyle having a car crash interview.
Peter Kyle: The plan is great.
Naga Munchetty: Have you seen the plan?
Kyle: No.
We know who has seen the defence plan. John Healey and Al Carns, and they both resigned over it.
Labour are a mess. They can’t stop lying.
The SNP use English taxpayer money to pay for removing tuition fees, whilst simultaneously using this policy as an argument for independence from the UK.
Ask them how they'd fund the free tuition without English taxpayers.
The King has secured an agreement from the US president to remove tariffs on Scotch whisky.
John Swinney is trying to claim credit👇. Why are the SNP so dishonest?
A fantastically heart warming story. There are still far too few barristers from less than privileged backgrounds. It’s a tough and very expensive road, especially at the beginning. Congratulations to Leonie Hughes
An eloquent King’s Counsel in full, passionate flow is a thing of beauty.
Following on from Geoffrey Cox KC’s barnstorming speech, here’s @NECircuitleader telling the Labour minister that reducing jury trials is not the answer to dealing with the backlog of cases.
BREAKING: Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has called for the prime minister to resign in response to the release of the Mandelson files.
She says, "[Sir Keir Starmer] has shown a complete lack of judgement, catastrophic error after catastrophic error".
In 2016, the then Conservative Prime Minister, David Cameron, commissioned the then backbench Labour MP, David Lammy to conduct a review and investigate racial bias in the criminal justice system of England and Wales.
The report known as the Lammy Report was published in 2017. It's proven to be quite a significant report in many ways in shaping government policy, information collected by institutions in our CJS, and areas of focus.
Ironically, one of the key findings of the report was that black people were disproportionately more likely to be negatively impacted in non-jury trials as they were in jury trials. Judges were overwhelmingly older, white, public school educated, middle class men. In his view, jury trials provided greater protection against the structural issues he found in his own report.
Fast forward to 2026. The same David Lammy is now a Rt. Hon. Justice Secretary, proposing to create MORE non-jury trials. Some of the reasons are to save money, clear backlogs, and get faster justice for victims.
Watch this fantastic speech by former Justice Secretary and King's Counsel, Sir. Geoffrey Cox MP. When politicians are willing to destroy core tenets of our democratic and liberal society to save money (which never happens), etc. we don't have leaders - we have institutional saboteurs.
This is disgraceful reporting about a senior member of the judiciary.
We are in real danger of politicising our judges - which would be a horrendous development for our liberties and security.
Things Rachel Reeves thinks are “fair”:
✅ Ripping off low-paid young graduates by saddling them with massive debts and punitive interest rates on loans to fund an education that their parents got for free - regardless of how poor they are.
✅Giving more and more of taxpayers’ money every year, without fail, to all pensioners via the Triple Lock - regardless of how rich they are.
Tax thresholds frozen, student loan grown by 10k since graduating, cutting ISAs, astronomical rents, pension contributions taxed. Is there any financial hope for a 30-year-old in Britain?
When will Rachel Reeves start talking about saving money not just finding more & more ways of taking money away from people who themselves have bothered to save and work hard?
