Republicans punishing anyone for asserting their 1A rights is appalling enough, but punishing all Missourians by defunding public libraries simply because some librarians have sued the state over a book ban is something I’d only expect to see in 1984 or Fahrenheit 451.
A Republican US Senator introduces a bill giving the government the power to not allow Americans on social media until they’re 16yrs old. Clearly this isn’t Constitutional, but it’s yet one more example that today’s Republican Party isn’t conservative. It’s authoritarian.
@snackhaver@eeberquist Whoa...I just thought it was like a cool, ironic title about how it stinks growing up. @shannon_whitney knew and says we should have read more YM magazine
FYI Marjorie: The song 99 Red Balloons is about children releasing balloons in the air and countries overreacting and starting a nuclear war that destroys the world.
After watching the #GOP twist itself into knots over Herschel Walker, why are folks expecting something different when it comes to George Santos. This ain’t about integrity, honesty or candidate quality, it’s about 218 votes just as backing Walker was about control of the Senate.
@snackhaver @dicklevitating Like literally just spitting hot takes into existence for no reason. Some people just want to watch the world burn 🤷♀️🤷♂️
In a state where the governor signed a bill last year declaring many federal laws unconstitutional, it’s not hyperbolic to suggest this new role could be abused by a gov that wants the guard to enforce a GOP interpretation of the constitution. Guns, abortion, elections results…
I’m not saying Herschel Walker can’t still win. I’m just saying that if he does win it means that morality, truth, and decency have ceased to be relevant to GOP voters. And there is no limit to what the broader Republican Party will tolerate. But…I guess we knew that already.
After every single school shooting, Republicans tell us it’s not guns, it’s mental health.
Today, 205 Republicans just voted against increasing mental health access in schools.
Now the House GOP tax cut. Top 1% of earners in Missouri would save avg $15,000/year. Bottom 20% of folks that make enough to owe income tax would save $10 a year. Plus almost 30% of folks who don’t even make enough to get a penny from this cut. So again, who is this tax cut for?
This right here is what it comes down to. The MO GOP thinks our state is doing great right now. Lowest state funding for schools, lowest paid teachers, lowest paid state workers, workforce crisis in mental health, social workers, prisons. That’s a “good job.”
Now Rep Richie saying “sure we’re talking about cost to the state budget but this is about folks that need relief right now.” Then why does this bill provide literally zero dollars to the bottom third of earners? Those are the folks that truly need the most help right now. #moleg
