We're at a point where I can no longer deny that both D1 and D2 are two of the best games I've ever played.
Consistently imperfect, yet unique and unmatched by no other, Destiny is a franchise with limitless potential.
That potential could've manifested in Destiny 3.

For almost twelve years, we have had the joy and honor to explore the Destiny universe with you all. Through all the ups and downs, surprises and triumphs, building Destiny alongside our players has been a monumental privilege. While our love for Destiny 2 has not changed, it has become clear that after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2.
As our focus turns towards a new beginning for Bungie, we will begin work incubating our next games. To that end, on June 9, 2026, we will release the final live-service content update for Destiny 2 to begin that new journey as a studio.
Though active development may be concluding, we will ensure that Destiny 2 remains playable, just as the original Destiny is today. Many changes in this final update will aim to ensure that Destiny 2 is a welcoming place for players to return to.
We’re proud of Destiny 2, the places it took us, and the legacy it has created. Because of you all, our universe is vast, built on years of shared stories, adventures, and victories. From the Cosmodrome to the Pale Heart to the Lawless Frontier, we have forged life-long memories and friendships with you all.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who made that journey with us.
From the deepest part of our hearts, thank you, and we'll see you in the stars.
One of the biggest updates ever received in Destiny 2.
A petition with now over 350,000 signatures in 2 weeks.
A player base rallied together like never seen before.
I refuse to believe this is the end of the Destiny franchise. @Sony and @PlayStation: The devs have spoken, the talent have spoken, & the players have spoken. Do not allow one of the best franchises in gaming history to be let go. You’ve seen over the last 2 weeks how powerful every voice is, no matter how small.
Do the right thing; continue the franchise.
GUARDIANS MAKE THEIR OWN FATE.
@A_dmg04 Thank you endlessly to you and the rest of the team, Dylan. Appreciate everything you've all done and can't wait to jump into the update.
Until then - and beyond - we'll keep fighting for you and push for a future of Destiny. #WeWantDestiny3

Our final pre-MoT TWID.
Community and development teams have delivered thousands of words and bullets over the last couple weeks.
Likely millions over the last ~9 years for D2.
Thank you for being with us for every line.
@dankkepng A CoD Zombies most would honestly be pretty cool to see, but also wondering how appealing that'd be to get people in. Feel like they're really gonna have a tough time getting people in, especially when many dont wanna play due to the situation with Destiny 😅
@VasusenaKA@dankkepng Personally, I don't think the MoT trailer will show up there, and don't think it was intentionally left out of the SoP. Historically though, Sony have been pretty bad at promoting Destiny (for some reason), and it's only really Marathon they've been more up front with.
I’m trying to stay excited about the MoT trailer and sandbox news, but the depression and anger is finally starting to hit me. I can’t believe this is the end of Destiny. Fuck Sony.
Also, Sony definitely didn’t include the MoT trailer in the State of Play on purpose.
@ForcadoUALG@VescoTony@Swarles12 If we're counting Spider-Man then yeah that one pretty much would top it all. But also Sony has to pay Marvel for that and sounds like they were having a tough time making profit because of that iirc. But yeah 40 mil sold, Destiny seemingly had 70+ million registered accounts?
@ForcadoUALG@VescoTony@Swarles12 Yeah, definitely top 10, but I just think it depends how you view 'big'. Like in terms of profit, under Sony at least, Destiny would not be up there. But in terms of reach, players, money made etc. I think it's closer to being number 1. Don't think we can say for sure either way.

@ForcadoUALG@VescoTony@Swarles12 So no, I don't think it's a wild statement to make. Just because it's not done as well in recent years does not suddenly make it not valuable, not up there, or that it can never compete especially when we know how leadership has hampered their creative ability.
@ForcadoUALG@VescoTony@Swarles12 I understand this which is also why I've said that no doubt is the case for Destiny. Plus, the whole point of me using the word 'almost' in that first tweet was because my main point is that it's up there.
But the reach is high and long term monetisation potential is higher.
