One of the biggest mistakes I see churches make in their philosophy of ministry is making community and discipleship synonymous.
Community is essential to discipleship but it is not synonymous with discipleship.
Tribulation does not make people impatient but proves that they are impatient, so everyone may learn from tribulation how his heart is constituted.

"He humbled you and let you hunger..." Deut. 8:3
Our comfort is not God's chief concern.
God let Israel hunger on purpose.
He often uses uncomfortable circumstances to humble us and teach us to look to Him.
At first, it feels cruel, but afterward, the humbled are thankful.
As you start new resolutions, remember:
Spiritual disciplines are not about making you more precious to God. They’re about making God more precious to you.
If you're only surrounded by people who affirm you, you'll be deceived.
If you're only surrounded by people who critique you, you'll despair.
Surround yourself with people who love you enough to encourage and correct you.
“Aslan,” said Lucy, “you’re bigger.”
“That is because you are older, little one,” answered he.
“Not because you are?”
“I am not. But every year you grow, you will find me bigger.”

Listen, the reason Jordan Peterson (and every other Youtube Celebrity) is so popular with Christians is because the Church by and large doesn't do discipleship.
Criminally underutilized tip for evangelism: simply encourage a curiosity in someone to read an account of Jesus in one of the Gospels. Most people have never been exposed to the story firsthand. I'm biased, but it's the very thing that caused me to place my faith in Jesus at 13.
