A Guide to Dogeparty NFTs
Counterparty (@CounterpartyXCP) with Spells of Genesis and Rare Pepes as it's best known projects has showcased the potential of NFTs on Bitcoin since 2014.
However, few are aware that an NFT community based on Dogecoin will celebrate its 10-year anniversary this week!
🟨What is Dogeparty?
Dogeparty is a peer-to-peer protocol built on top of the Dogecoin blockchain.
It’s been forked from the Bitcoin-native Counterparty with ten times faster and way cheaper transactions.
Dogeparty (@DogepartyXDP) was created and launched on August 13, 2014 as the third ever NFT protocol according to @WhiteRabbit1111.
The platform ran until May of 2016 at which time it was abandoned by the original developers.
A team led by Jeremy Johnson (“J-Dog”, @jdogresorg) rebooted Dogeparty in August 2021.
None of the vintage Dogeparty tokens were lost because they were safely stored on the Dogecoin chain.
🟨What are vintage Dogeparty NFTs?
The overwhelming majority of 2014 Dogeparty assets do not have any artwork attached from the time they were issued, have very high supplies, and/or are in lost wallets.
For collectors, there are however a few interesting vintage assets:
JOLLYROGER was issued by Daniel Spiller (@spiller_crypto) on August 19, 2014, and a link to a Jolly Roger artwork ("pirate flag“) was attached to the issuance transaction. It’s the oldest available non-renewable NFT for which the image has not been altered. The token has a supply of 550.
The Dogeparty Runner game was invented by @LiteBitCo and first played on September 1st, 2014. It was designed as a cyber hunt game that used blockchain assets for gameplay tokens. The scarcest RUNNER token was minted on August 15, 2014 with a supply of 100. The game innovates by integrating digital assets on a blockchain with virtual gameplay. Note that the token’s artwork was added in October 2022.
DOGECAR was issued on August 13, 2014, by the artist Little Shibe (@littleshibeOG). Although the artwork was added on January 15, 2022, there is off-chain evidence showing the minted artwork 2014 on X. According to the artist, the artwork was commissioned by NASCAR driver @Josh_Wise for a T-shirt in 2014. The token has a supply of 500.
GOLDENSHIBE was minted on August 14, 2014, by @dogermint. Hand-drawn artwork by Honolulu tattoo artist JoBiz was added on November 05, 2021. The token has a supply of 999.
🟨What is the Rare Doge directory?
The Rare Doge Directory is a contemporary directory of Dogeparty NFTs that started in fall 2021.
The directory currently consists of 27 series, each containing 50 different NFTs.
Rare Doge cards typically have a clear relation to Doge memes or general crypto culture.
Series 1 trading cards with a low supply have a substantial valuation bonus. The most popular cards are COUCHDOGE, DOGEKAMOTO, or DOGETHEPUNK.
🟨On-chain NFTs using Dogeparty?
I tried the first experiments with on-chain NFTs on Dogecoin with BASENFT, a 1/1 that was issued on January 24, 2022.
This token has a Base64 encoded Dogecoin logo as artwork in the OP_Return part of a Dogecoin transaction.
The Dogeparty community started a Dogecoin STAMPs project in April 2023 after Bitcoin Ordinals and Bitcoin STAMPs became popular.
It quickly turned out to be the largest Dogeparty project with more than 14k on-chain NFTs.
Given the technical limitations (file size is limited to be below 10kb), you can mostly find pixel art and small animated SVG files in this project.
Note that Dogecoin STAMPs are unrelated to Doginals.
🟨Fungible tokens on Dogeparty?
There are many high supply tokens on Dogeparty. The most prominent one is SHITCOIN, the first token with such a mematic name on any chain.
Supply is 69.420 million.
The token has plenty of lore on Bitcoin Talk from 2014, an active issuer (@dogermint) who is building a Shitcoin DAO, and an ETH-liquidity pool to facilitate trading.
🟨How to buy Dogeparty NFTs
There are two ways to buy a Dogeparty NFT.
Wrapped via EmblemVault or natively on Dogeparty.
1⃣ @EmblemVault provides an ERC 1155 wrapper for Dogeparty assets, similar to Counterparty collections like Rare Pepes.
You find a curated Dogeparty collection on @opensea and other secondary markets.
2⃣Or you use a native Dogeparty (@DogepartyXDP) wallet.
There are currently two types: a light web wallet and a fully-fledged Desktop wallet.
While the former works fine to buy Dogeparty assets with Dogecoin, you need a wallet viewer to enjoy your Dogeparty tokens.
You find helpful videos at DP University (@DogepartyU) and a comprehensive written guide by @dogermint.
🟨The future of Dogeparty
Dogeparty NFTs may be your thing if you believe in the Doge narrative and digital collectibles.
Dogecoin is the most widely known cryptocurrency behind Bitcoin and has the potential to become a popular chain for Dog(e)-related NFTs.
For the historical NFT connoisseurs, there are very early digital collectibles (with artwork from 2014) or early gaming experiments.
