@MatthewTatum_@McKayMadsen It’s one of the most picturesque settings in college football. BYU does a phenomenal job to promote a positive, family friendly game day atmosphere. Definitely a home field advantage. Not many visiting teams leave LES with a W.

McKay Madsen (Clovis North) is likely the first State Athlete of the Year named for a previous winner, McKay Christensen of Clovis West, for 1993-94. We've met both & both so committed to their faith.

Perspective on the first photo. The shot doesn't really look that small up close. 🤣 @McKayMadsen wins both shot and discus (w/ meet records) at the @CifCentral Masters Championship yesterday. He will defend his state titles in both next week at the @CIFState meet. 📸@deanna_4029

Proud of the man you’re becoming! Well deserved recognition for your efforts in the classroom as well as your accomplishments on your athletic teams.
“I’ve always been set on serving a mission. I have no problem putting aside my career for two years, when I’ll get blessings the rest of my life.” @McKayMadsen shares the value he sees in pausing his sports career for serving a mission. Catch it all here: https://t.co/El3HdUURTd
One huge mark statewide on Friday as @cntrack senior @McKayMadsen moves to #11 in the state all-time shot put list with a big 68-04 heave at the Sanger Metric Classic! McKay also won the disc in 201-06! Also at Sanger, @CenGrizzlytrack Brandon Smith bolted 46.83 in the 400!
These young men are among the best in California, posting top marks in time, distance and height.

BYU Football commit @McKayMadsen...
On Track and Field: "I broke my school record in shot. I threw 65.8. I think it's the number one throw for 18-year-olds in the world right now. Discus has been going good. My record is 205.4. That should be top five in the nation. Number one in California for both by a pretty decent margin."
Who do you model your game after? "My player idol would be Christian McCaffrey. I grew up a Stanford fan. He's so fast and so swift. I'm not as fast as he is. I'm more of a bully. I've always loved watching Christian McCaffrey run."
On General Conference: "One of my favorite takeaways [was from Tamara W. Runia]. She said our faith and strength and obedience does not determine our worth. The only one to judge us is God."
"I think with President Nelson pushing for the gathering of Zion I think one of the ways to do that is through BYU sports. The better we get the more people are going to tune in. As BYU sports win more... we're only quickening the work of Zion."
On his LDS mission: "I've been called to serve in the Argentina Mendoza mission. I'll go to the Mexico MTC July 30. My childhood best friend is in that same mission."
How will you stay in shape while in Argentina: "No idea. It's pretty developed so I think there'll be access to a gym unless I'm out in the country somewhere. Then I'll be lifting goats, curling some little sheep or something. We'll see. The main thing for me is I'll have to keep up my running. I expect to lose a little bit of weight. They're known for their beef so my diet should be taken care of."
His message to Cougar Nation: "We're building this thing. It's on the uprise. It's a good and fun time to be a Coug fan right now."
