Interview more than one firm.

If they don't respond within 2-days, run.

Bait them into explaining what your old CPA would do, to see if they really know their stuff.

@cordes_tax My issue is with a Northern Mockingbird. Apparently my neighborhood/ walking route with the pup is stacked with various nests.
A few years back one of them nipped the doggo. My wife had to convince me not to find the nest and go to town with a tennis racquet.
