I still do not understand why the MPs apart of momentum are still apart pf the labour party. Labour abandoned it’s truly left wing values yet they seem to remain so loyal to the party does it shock anyone else?
@MartinSLewis@itvMLshow Chancellor- This budget has little fixes for normal working class people and bigger benefits to those that pocket more wealth than most could ever dream of? Will a wealth tax truly ever be considered or has labour become the party for the ultra wealthy not the working class?
If this is accurate this is a terrible budget. Terrible.
The only substantial increase is on defence spending, paid for with borrowing.
Bakes in the approval of Rosebank drilling, which is genuine madness as climate change is not just a human catastrophe but also our biggest national security threat.
The tax rise on banks is tiny and takes us back to the levels under the Tories.
The most pifling cost of living support that will be totally erased by inflation & 25% increase in energy costs, with much of it short-term.
Structural energy price reform - the only thing that will drop prices in the absence of nationalisation - delayed for the long-term.
If this is accurate, this is a budget that guarantees ordinary people will get poorer, oil companies richer, and all of us less safe as Labour doubles down on the sort of militarism that is causing our cost of living crisis and new oil& gas that will drive us towards catastrophic climate tipping points.
Funny that they ate running to announce all of this after the by-election isn’t it. All most like they tell people what they want to hear and do the opposite…
Andy Burnham the “left wing messiah” that would get rid of starmerism! Done so by…. bringing back starmerism?
Unless it is a local labour council that works with the green party of course, then their power is determined by Westminster. Those prime ministers and their London centric ideas 😉
Genuine question here for anyone, do we think Burnham is going to keep labour surging in the polls or at least keep them in first place or do we think it is just a honeymoon period. Personal politics aside just wonder what people see polls being like over the coming months?
🟢 New: Greens Organise, the left-wing faction that backed Polanski’s leadership bid last year has responded to his loss in Holborn and St Pancras. Their statement reads:
“A year ago, Zack started us on this journey - we surged to over 220,000 members, won control of multiple Councils and beat Reform in Gorton & Denton. We shook Labour to its core and forced a Prime Minister to resign.
But not all growth and success is linear, there will be ups and downs; the real test for a political organisation is how we deal with failure.
We have re-shaped the British political landscape. The Green Party can still become the ecosocialist party we need. Zack is still the leader who can get us there.
At Greens Organise, we're going to stick together, learn from what happened and get back to work.”
@SteveSmith_cam Ahh yes cause Caroline Lucas was the one to near triple party membership, take it to its highest ever polling, win its first by-election and so on. Zack has shaped the green party into a legitimate party that is a threat to other major parties.
The greens didn’t surge immediately after Starmer became PM and with three years out of a GE there is still time for us to build upon what we already have. Zack should continue to lead that and he has my full support in doing so.
We fight policy we disagree with, with policies we would put in place. Show that the green party are still a serious political movement. Understand that we still have a PM that refuses to call what is happening in Palestine a genocide, and a government that still arms Israel.
He is already turning on things he said should be implemented nationwide when he was Mayor claiming they can’t be done. With the budget on the horizon and a decision still to be announced on north sea oil, the greens need to be prepared for more voters to be disillusioned.
Now is a time to organise, no time for infighting. There needs to be a huge focus on local grassroots movements putting ourselves in the community more and more. We need to be prepared for labour to use this win as mandate to carry on with the status quo.
Disappointing result this morning, I believe this needs to be seen as a turning point for the greens. We must stop infighting asap, Caroline Lucas going on news night and bashing Zack before results are announced is shocking. People calling for Zack to go is atrocious.
Since Zack took over we have increased our membership by over 200k, won our first by-election and performed greatly in the locals. This by-election took place in a labour safe seat off the back of a newly chosen labour PM it was gonna be risky from the start.
