Historic day in college sports.
After resisting any payment to student-athletes for 50 years - with hundreds of millions in legal fees fighting it - schools can directly pay their student-athletes, starting today.
I remember when a coach couldn't buy a player a slice of pizza.
I’d offer my 2 cents on this but I already gave it to some players. I’m finally over it! I certainly miss some of the biz, but there’s more i’d like to forget.
An NFLPA official estimates 350 people will sit for the exam to become certified to rep NFL players (per @InsideTheLeague).
Just to spend lots of $, travel nonstop, fight for clients in a low-margin/oversaturated biz, and constantly worry that your clients will leave you. Fun!
I never thought it would happen. Lot’s of very determined people worked diligently to insure a bright future of the next Gen of “Student Athletes” Kudos!
The NCAA and its leagues are moving forward with a multibillion-dollar settlement agreement that will allow schools to directly pay players for the first time in the history of college sports. https://t.co/XaVgW9306B
@heitner@HEITNERLEGAL it’s the right thing to do. I’m proud of your decision. These universities have been publicly unwilling to denounce the antisemitism on campus. Never would have imagined it. Am Israel Chai.
@mspears96 Congrats man. First time we spoke on the phone I said “Hollywood was calling”. You have certainly answered the call. It’s been awesome to watch you grow. Couldn’t happen to a better guy!
Syracuse graduation weekend. Falk College of Sport & Human Dynamics. Our Sophie finishes w honors & is off to NYU Grad School. We are so incredibly proud of her. Also cool meeting agent business legend David Falk, fellow star of ESPN Film “The Dotted Line”
@jimrome @Jakelrome Congrats to you and Janet. His face has not changed. Time flies by so fast. I still remember him dressed up like Batman trick or treating and now he’s a Badger grad. Amazing!
John Walsh BYU QB was projected by some as top 10 in 1995. Draft history repeating itself?https://t.co/eOQV8oZ2g5. Jimmy Clausen also.
Levis slide is nowhere near these……
Yet.
We were providing track coaches/combine prep in the 90’s. It all started with IMG and has evolved since. Now factor in the cost of the recruiting process and it’s impossible to turn a profit on rookies. Always provided loans but per diem & marketing guarantees ramped up around 06
In 20 years, NFL agents have gone from not offering recruits $ to now basically serving as banks.
1 agent: “It’s the most asinine, short-sighted cannibalism in American commerce.”
Sleepless nights, ruthless competition, low margins.. want to be an agent?

Some guys turned down the little money I offered them back in the day, here is one reason why. As an agent, I couldn’t compete with the boosters I guess. #Bluechips Classic movie was true.
“We have dropped adidas athletes for using steroids and being difficult to work with but are unwilling to denounce hate speech, the perpetuation of dangerous stereotypes and blatant racism by one of our top brand partners.”
Powerful statement by an adidas employee.
